PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS 1.0 1.1 INTRODUCTION

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 3 OF 35 REV: D2

Piping and Instrument Diagrams are also known in the industry as Engineering Flow Diagram (EFD), Engineering Flowsheets, Flowsheets, etc. Throughout this standard these drawings shall be referred to as Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's). P&ID's serve CONTRACTOR and PTT as a source of engineering information. These diagrams are used as a basis for engineering, design drafting, estimating, construction and operation of the equipment, piping and instrumentation for the project and receive wide distribution throughout CONTRACTOR and the PTT organisation. They should be technically correct, easy to read, consistent and be of good presentation.

1.2

2.0

SCOPE This specification outlines the requirements for the preparation of P&ID's and shall be followed by CONTRACTOR. Deviations from this specification may be made only in order to conform to a specific project or PTT requirement and shall be issued as an amendment to this specification.

3.0

TYPES OF P&ID's Piping and Instrument Diagrams will be sub-divided between the categories described below. However combination is permissible when a unit is of such a size and design that for example, the utilities and auxiliaries can be shown on one type of diagram with clarity.

3.1

Process Unit P&ID's P&ID's of a particular unit such as a compressor, and inlet filter scrubber unit are called Process Unit P&ID's.

3.2

Utility P&ID's P&ID's of utilities such as instrument air and oil system, oily water and waste water, and tempered water are called Utility P&ID's.

3.3

Distribution P&ID's P&ID's of header distribution systems shown geographically are called Distribution P&ID's. It should be noted that the system need not necessarily be limited to utility distribution and can be used for process distribution.

3.4

Auxiliary P&ID's P&ID's of the equipment piping and instrumentation associated with an item of equipment are called Auxiliary P&ID's. A typical example would be the auxiliary equipment, piping and instrumentation necessary for a large compressor. The

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS

intent is to keep the Process Unit P&ID's as uncluttered as possible. (See Appendix G). 3.5 3.6 Not used Packaged Unit P&ID's P&ID's provided by equipment suppliers for a packaged unit e.g. large centrifugal compressor unit etc. are called Packaged Unit P&ID's. 3.7 Symbols P&ID's P&ID's containing general notes, symbols, nomenclature and piping details are called Symbols P&ID's. 4.0 4.1 BASIC REQUIREMENTS General

4.1.1 P&ID's shall be prepared using the standard symbols referred to in Appendix E. 4.1.2 The size, service, line number, Piping Material Specification, type of tracing andwhether insulated shall be indicated for each line on the P&ID's. Where lines leave/enter a P&ID the destination/origin equipment tag shall be indicated. 4.1.3 If any special attention in piping layout and design is required, special notes shall be made on the P&ID's. An illustration of some commonly used terms is provided in Appendix D. The P&ID's shall show the keywords and symbology which are mentioned in each illustration. 4.1.4 Other notes to clarify the P&ID's shall be added as required. For example, if a valve is required to be located against a vessel nozzle, it shall be so stated on the P&ID. The CONTRACTOR shall pay particular attention to the sequence of take-offs of several lines from headers when the sequence is important from a process standpoint. Appropriate notes shall be added to clarify these conditions. Notes which are commonly required include such items as "slope" and "symmetrical piping". 4.1.5 Show limit of supply as per Appendix G. 4.2 Process Unit P&ID's and Utility P&ID's

4.2.1 Headers are not normally shown on the Process Unit/ Utility P&ID's. A line to or from a header shall be terminated with a number enclosed in an arrow boxes. When a header serves only two or three users within a unit and can be shown with the correct sequence of branches, it shall be completely shown on the Process Unit/Utility P&ID. 4.2.2 Where a system or arrangement of valves is repeated frequently, a typical detail showing the arrangement shall be shown on the Symbols P&ID. A letter (A, B ,

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 5 OF 35 REV: D2

C, etc) enclosed in a rectangle shall refer to this arrangement as a detail on the P&ID. This treatment shall be applied to flushing connections, drains and vents at exchangers and pumps, steam out connections, steam trap assemblies, etc. 4.2.3 General Notes, reference drawings, typical details, etc. applicable to all P&ID's shall be shown designated by letter and shall be shown on the Symbols Flow Diagram unless space requirements dictate otherwise. Notes applying to a specific P&ID shall be designated by number and be shown on that P&ID only. 4.2.4 Showing piping or ducting in elevation. e.g. Processes involving solids or high freezing point fluids or where such flow is by gravity. slurries,

4.2.5 Tankage, blending, pump-house and other similar areas containing equipment shall generally be presented on a schematic basis with the tanks shown in elevations. 4.3 Distribution P&ID's

4.3.1 Distribution P&ID's shall show the correct sequence of take-offs from the headers in accordance with the physical arrangement of the equipment to assist in piping layout and line sizing, so that an economical piping layout can be accomplished. The Distribution P&ID's shall show all take-offswhich are referenced on the Process Unit P&ID's. 4.3.2 Each header system shall occupy a separate space on the Distribution P&ID's, with similar systems grouped on the same sheet (e.g. all steam headers shall be in the same sheet where practical). The headers, sub-headers and branches are to be shown geographically to the Plot Plan, but not necessarily to scale. A listing of the services displayed should be placed in the Title Block of each Distribution P&ID. 4.3.3 The Distribution P&ID shall not duplicate any valving or instrumentation already shown on other P&ID's. The Distribution P&ID for each system shall contain the following information: a) Size, service, line number, whether insulated and type of tracing and Piping Material Specification of headers, sub-headers and lines to individual equipment items. Valves at headers (usually for isolation purposes). Instruments for header system control. Battery limit identification to show proper connection to offsite lines. P&ID number and equipment tag number for lines going to Process Unit/Utility P&ID's.

b) c) d) e)

4.3.4 Care shall be exercised to assure a complete cross-reference of lines which appear both on the Distribution and Process Unit P&ID's (see Appendix B).

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS 4.4 Auxiliary P&ID's

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 6 OF 35 REV: D2

4.4.1 Auxiliary P&ID's shall be prepared for rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, and centrifuges where equipment is sufficiently complicated to warrant this treatment. Alternatively the auxiliary piping and any details or tabulations required, may be shown on the Process Unit or Utility P&ID's if space is available. 4.4.2 The Auxiliary P&ID's shall show auxiliary equipment, utility piping etc. and the following information:Piping, instrumentation etc. to be supplied by Vendor. Cross references to the vendor's terminal connection designation. See Appendix G for an example. 4.4.3 The foregoing treatment is also applicable to other complicated equipment where multiple connections to CONTRACTOR designed services would obscure the Process Unit P&ID. 4.5 4.6 Not used Packaged Unit P&ID's

4.6.1 CONTRACTOR's requisition for the purchase of a package unit shall request the VENDOR to provide P&ID's for the entire package unit according to Project standards. 4.6.2 CONTRACTOR P&ID's shall indicate the package unit by enclosing the appropriate part of the P&ID concerned with a dash-dot line to show the exact scope of supply. The space enclosed shall state the package unit tag number and the titles of all equipment included with the suppliers name and drawing number. Individual numbers shall be given to the various components of a package in accordance with Engineering specification SPC-99.01 Numbering System 4.6.3 The VENDOR P&ID shall be marked up by CONTRACTOR to show:Package unit tag number Tag numbers of all equipment (where allocated) and instruments Drawing number allocated by CONTRACTOR The letters "CONTRACTORs name in brackets shown against any items supplied by CONTRACTOR All other comments required to bring the P&ID into line with Project standards

4.6.4 The VENDOR P&ID shall be issued and distributed exactly as if it were a CONTRACTORs P&ID.

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS 4.7 Symbols P&ID

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 7 OF 35 REV: D2

4.7.1 The Symbols P&ID shall show standard symbols and notes applicable to all P&ID's. 4.7.2 The Symbols P&ID shall show, via typical details, piping configurations that are repeated throughout the project. All other P&ID's shall refer to these typical details rather than repeat the arrangement. 4.7.3 Where additional/amend symbology required. CONTRACTOR shall request an approval from PTT prior to add/amend the Symbols P&IDs. 4.7.4 A reduced copy of the Symbols P&ID is included in Appendix E. 5.0 5.1 PREPARATION DETAILS Title Box The Title Box of P&ID's shall contain the following: 5.1.1 The first line shall always be "PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAM". 5.1.2 The second line shall identify the specific subject covered in accordance with the following examples: Type of P&ID Process unit P&ID Utility P&ID Distribution P&ID Example of second Line COMPRESSOR UNIT INSTRUMENT AND UTILITY SYSTEM Sewer system

The subsequent line(s) shall identify the Owner as PTT Public Company Limited, the project title as Onshore Compressor Station 4 and the plant location as Map Ta Put, Rayong, Thailand. 5.1.3 Main equipment data shall be given at below the equipment number which stated at the base of P&ID. Revision/issue/signature boxes provided at the base of the P&ID. Note boxes provided at the right side of the P&ID. 5.1.4 The approved P&ID title box is given on Appendix N. 5.2 P&ID Numbering P&IDs shall be numbered as per Engineering Specification, SPC 0804.02-99.01 Numbering System. 5.3 Equipment Arrangement

5.3.1 P&IDs shall be divided into four horizontal sections. Equipment such as towers,

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 8 OF 35 REV: D2

drums, heaters and tanks shall be placed in the two upper sections. Heat exchangers shall be shown in the third section and pumps in the lower section. 5.3.2 The divisions into sections may be altered to suit particular situations. For example, if a condenser is to be located over an accumulator, it shall be indicated in that manner on the P&ID. When a unit has many interconnecting lines between heat exchangers, the P&ID's may be simplified by placing some exchangers on the same line with the towers or pumps. Such exceptions are justifiable in order to obtain a more realistic representation and an orderly arrangement of piping. Another example where flexibility is permitted is chemical type plants where piping or ducting may be better shown in elevation. 5.3.3 The minimum elevation shall be specified by the CONTRACTOR at the lower tangent line of all vertical vessels, at the bottom of all horizontal vessels and for other equipment items where the elevation is critical to the process. Where several items are interrelated, with respect to elevation, the minimum elevation will be noted for only one of the items and dimensions used to show the relationship with the other items. An example of the foregoing is a reboiler which must have a definite relation to its associated tower. In this case, the tower tangent line shall be marked with the minimum elevation and a dimension specified between this point and the reboiler bottom, centreline or other defined point. Another common example is vacuum equipment (condenser) which has a distinct relationship with the associated sump or drum. Still another example in this category is the indication of loop seals where all critical dimensions shall be shown and referenced to a fixed point. 5.3.4 Equipment shall be spaced so that further detailing shall not be crowded, remembering that P&ID's shall be clearly readable in the reduced size. This shall be considered before deciding to use Process Licensors Flow Diagrams. 5.3.5 Consideration shall be given to the presentation of equipment and instruments which will constitute a pre-assembled unit (PAU). If it is practical to group all equipment and instruments within a PAU onto a single P&ID, when the P&ID is initially drawn, this should be done. In this case the items should be surrounded by a dash-dot line and referenced with the module number. In cases where grouping is not practical, modularised equipment tag numbers shall be prefixed with the applicable module number. For instruments, the module number shall be shown adjacent to the tag number balloon. 5.3.6 Equipment which will constitute a Vendor Assembled Unit (VAU) should be enclosed within a dash-dot line, showing the extent of Vendor assembly, and referenced with the module number and equipment tag numbers. 5.3.7 Tray should be numbered from the bottom of a column up. Only the trays adjacent to nozzles or instrumentation shall be numbered on the P&ID.

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS 5.4 Equipment Details

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 9 OF 35 REV: D2

5.4.1 Equipment internals shall be shown in full light lines. Details of internals that have no significant bearing on the piping design and layout shall be omitted. 5.4.2 If the nozzle at an item of equipment (vessel, pump, exchanger, etc.) is line size and agrees with the Piping Material Specification, the type of connection only (ie. whether it is flanged or otherwise) shall be indicated. If the equipment nozzle is not line size or does not follow the Piping Material Specification, then the P&ID shall be noted per the following: a) Indicate flanges by use of a single straight line and note the different size and/or flange rating. b) If the nozzle is not flanged, indicate appropriately the different size and/or the deviation from the Piping Material Specification.

5.4.3 Where equipment is complicated, nozzles may be numbered using the same numbering system as used on the Process Data Sheet, and vessel drawing. 5.4.4 Manways and hand-holes on equipment shall be shown on the P&ID's. Skirts or other equipment supports shall also be omitted. 5.5 Equipment Numbering

5.5.1 Where practical, all process equipment shall be numbered in sequence. Equipment numbers shall not be changed to accommodate the addition or deletion of an item during the progress of a contract, and a deleted number shall not be re-used. 5.5.2 Equipment should be numbered as per numbering system Specification, SPC0804.02-99.01 5.5.3 Only the item number for the equipment shall be shown on the body of the P&ID. 5.5.4 Electrical equipment and motors item number will not normally be shown on P&ID. There will, however, be exceptions e.g. Electric Heat Exchangers, gas cooler etc. 5.5.5 All vessels and all types of heat exchangers shall be assigned a trim specification. It shall be stated on the P&ID immediately below the equipment number. The trim specification number shall contain the piping material specification to all of the equipment flange nozzles and manways followed by the insulation and tracing requirements. For example:5504-D-01 Trim Spec. D3101-WD Should a particular item of equipment have two applicable trim specifications then both trim specifications shall be stated under the equipment number and the

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS

specification break clearly identified on the equipment as depicted on the P&ID. 5.6 Equipment Data

5.6.1 The technical data for pumps, heat exchangers, vessels and all other equipment items shall be indicated below the equipment number which stated at the base or top of P&ID. Insulation shall be clearly marked on equipment symbology with the type and thickness where required or marked V if none is required. 5.7 Line Numbering 5.7.1 The assignment of line numbers shall be based upon good judgement. The formulation of a fixed set of rules is difficult, but the key criterion shall be that the P&ID's shall be clear to all interested parties. Too many line numbers will result in confusion while too few numbers will result in inefficient drafting, fabrication and erection operations. A given number shall remain the same regardless of any size or specification change in the line. All sizes and specifications of a given line shall be shown on the Line Classification List. In accordance with the foregoing concept, individual numbers shall be assigned to only the following lines: a) 1. Process Lines Each complete run between equipment items. Note: Branches from multiple nozzles on the same piece of equipment, or a line from two or more related equipment items in parallel, shall have the difference number as the basic line between items. Lines between the battery limits and equipment items. Branch lines from one of the above mentioned lines to another unrelated line or equipment item. Bypass or jump over lines around one or more equipment items (seeAppendix C for example). Header Lines Main header, including size and/or specification changes on run. Sub-headers serving different areas of plot. Branches from headers or sub-headers serving several pieces of equipment, or several unrelated services. Ultimate branches and local headers supplying or collecting from, a separate and distinct user or source. Miscellaneous Lines (except as noted in Para. 5.7.3) Vents to atmosphere.

2. 3. 4. b) 1. 2. 3. 4. c) 1.

Drains to sewer. Relief valve discharges to atmosphere, open sewer, etc.

5.7.2 Line numbering shall be as per numbering system Specification, SPC 0804.0299.01. 5.7.3 Miscellaneous Connections to Equipment which are short, e.g. vent and drain connections, need only be given size. It may be necessary during piping detailing to allocate line numbers where piping runs are longer than anticipated. 5.7.4 A line number, once deleted, shall not be re-used. The line classification list shall continue to carry the serial number only (no size or specification) marked "Deleted". 5.7.5 Lines added after the first release of the Line Classification List shall be listed at the end of the series, regardless of flow sequence. 5.7.6 Design pressure and design temperature shall be shown on P&ID in boxes on each line. See Appendix P. 5.7.7 Insulation a) Insulation and tracing requirements shall be indicated on the P&IDs by adding letters and thickness at the end of the line number. In the line classification list the identical letters will be used together with details of the thickness. See Appendix E. Unless noted otherwise the designation indicates the insulation/tracing requirements for the complete line from origin to terminal point. If only a portion of the line is to be insulated or traced then, arrow equivalent of a Specification Break shall be shown

b)

5.7.8 Manual valve All Manual valves shall be, tagged 6000HVXXX as indicated in the P&ID standard and symbology drawing. 5.8 Termination of Lines

5.8.1 All process lines which are continued on a process P&IDs and distribution P&IDs shall be terminate at an arrow box enclosing a number denoting the appropriate unit number. See Appendix B. 5.8.2 All utility lines which are continued on a process P&IDs and utility P&IDs shall be terminate at a box enclosing a number denoting the appropriate fluid type and unit number. See Appendix B. 5.8.3 A line entering or leaving a utility unit or battery limits shall be terminated at the top or the bottom of the P&ID, whichever is the nearer, with an indication of whether it is unit or battery limit. 5.8.4 A line which is continued on the adjacent P&ID and a P&ID within the process

PREPARATION OF PIPING AND INSTRUMENT DIAGRAMS

PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 12 OF 35 REV: D2

unit shall be terminated at the side of the P&ID. The lines shall be terminated at the left side or the right side depending whether the P&ID to which it is going is a lower or higher number. If the P&ID which the line is going to is the higher number, the line shall go to the right and if it is the lower number it shall go to the left. The line shall be terminated at the same level or nearest level on both P&ID's. (See Appendix N). 5.8.5 A line which is continued on a distribution P&ID may terminate at the top or the bottom of the P&ID, with an indication of whether it is common line. 6.0 6.1 6.2 DRAUGHTING TECHNIQUES In general, all piping lines shall be spaced a minimum of 7mm apart. Flow arrows on lines shall be clear and distinct. Based on A0 plot size, lettering shall be 3mm high in all instances except equipment titles, which shall be 5mm high and extra heavy. All lettering shall be vertical and in capitals. As with all symbology, sizes are based on plotted drawings of 'A0' size. The normal 'A1' "plots" would be proportionally reduced. The type of lines to be used on P&ID's shall be as indicated in Appendix E. Flow arrows shall be shown sufficient to readily indicate direction of flow, but need not be shown on each occasion where lines change direction and at junctions. FLOW DIAGRAM SYMBOLS Appendix E shows the equipment symbols which shall be used on all P&ID's. Where no symbol is given, refer to ANSI Standard Y32.11, "Graphic Symbols for Process Flow Diagrams in the Petroleum Chemical Industries" and consult with PTT/CONSULTANT. The CONTRACTOR shall utilise the standard symbols wherever possible and introduce new symbols as required for the specific project. Appendix E shows some typical examples of instrument symbology. Block valves on instrument connections to piping and equipment shall be shown. Instrument connections are diagrammatic only, e.g. a level gauge on a vessel be shown as example overleaf, but in reality connections may be in the sides, top or bottom and the type of connection may be direct, on a bridle or standpipe. Precise details of the connection will not be shown on the P&IDs. These block valves shall be categorized and tagged. Instrument numbering shall be in according with the Engineering Specification, SPC 0804.02-99.01, Numbering System. Control valve identification numbers shall normally be shown on P&ID's. Where interlocks, shutdowns or other relay or complex pneumatic, electric or hydraulic circuitry are involved, the input and output signals shall be shown going to a rectangle labelled "Shutdown Circuit" or similar. See example in Appendix H.

The P&ID shall list those functions which would initiate a shutdown, inhibit start up or consequentially trip other items. The list shall be in a rectangular box adjacent to the main item in the shutdown system e.g. a compressor, see Appendix J. Interlocks executed solely by Electrical Engineering will not normally be shown on the P&ID but will appear on the One Line Diagram and/or Motor Control and Indication Schedule. e.g. Voltage/Overload trips on motors. 7.6 7.7 The unit number of an instrument will only be shown on the instrument where it is part of a control system of another unit. Reducers

7.7.1 The reducer symbol shall be shown on the P&ID where the need for a reduction in size (including reducing flange, reducing fitting or swage) is evident. For example, there is no need to show reducer symbols for the following cases: a) b) The junction of two lines of different sizes. At an item of equipment where both the size of the nozzle and the line size are already shown.

7.7.2 In some cases, confusion can be avoided if reducer symbols are shown on the P&ID. At pump suction and discharge lines flow orifices, etc. a reducer symbol shall be indicated so that the exact location of the reducer will not be in doubt. 7.7.3 Since the pressure drop through a reducer does not normally constitute a substantial loss in the piping system, the selection of the reducer shall be dictated by the economics of the piping design. When the pressure drop is a factor the CONTRACTOR shall indicate on the P&ID's the acceptable method of reduction. 8.0 STANDARD PRESENTATION To ensure a consistent approach in the presentation of standard arrangements the following guidelines shall be followed:8.1 Package Units Significant vendor package e.g. boilers, compressors etc. shall be dealt with in accordance with Section 4.6, unless otherwise agreed with PTT. 8.2 Distribution System Non geographic hook-ups such as let-down stations, KO drums etc. should not be included in the geographic section and should be shown thus:MP STEAM DETAIL A LP STEAM DETAIL A CAN BE SHOWN ON ANOTHER PART OF THE DRAWING

Each time and P&ID is revised, the Line Classification List shall also be revised to indicate the latest P&ID revision letter whether or not the body of the Line Classification List is revised. Thus there will always be a correlation between the latest revision of the P&ID and its accompanying line list. Where no revision is made to the body no change shall appear in the margin. Operating and Design data for Utility and Distribution systems shall be consistent with the data given in the Engineering Specification SPC-99.00.05, Basic Engineering Design data. Operating Temperature This is the maximum continuous operating temperature for hot services or minimum for cold services. Short term upset conditions shall not be stated (see design temperature). Where two or more different operating conditions occur in a line then each set of conditions shall be given. (See example) Operating Design Line No Press Temp Press Temp 00001 00002 Note 1. 100/200 200 500 500 200/250 250 580 note 1 580

10.4

Operating Pressure This is the normal operating pressure of connected equipment. Allowance for pressure drop and static head need not be made unless significant. This will usually occur at control valves where there will be a significant change in the normal operating pressure, or for bottom draw-off from towers or for offsites lines coming from tankage.

10.5 Design Temperature The design temperature is the material temperature representing the most severe

condition of coincident pressure and temperature. Normally this will be the maximum design temperature of connected equipment. This rule will require a certain amount of interpretation, e.g. 10.5.1 Where lines are connected to heat exchangers which heat the fluid do not use the exchanger design temperature for the inlet line, use the design temperature of the upstream equipment. 10.5.2 Similarly for outlet lines connected to heat exchangers which cool the process stream use the design temperature of the downstream equipment. 10.5.3 For lines connected to columns use the column design temperature for bottom draw-off line only. Design temperature for feed lines should be determined from upstream equipment. Overhead and side stream draw-off should be determined from downstream equipment.

10.5.4 Where it is not possible to determine design temperature from connected equipment, typically add amb to the normal operating temperature. 10.5.5 There may be conditions such as start-up, catalyst regeneration etc. which will result in a temperature higher than normal for a sustained period, but at a pressure lower than design. If this situation occurs both sets of coincident conditions shall be shown and will be considered for stress analysis. Note: For uninsulated piping containing fluids other than category M fluids where the design conditions fall just outside of a pressure class, a reduction in design temperature as permitted by ANSI B31.3 Paragraph 301.3.1 may be considered. 10.5.6 Electrically traced lines shall have the maintained temperature shown. Steam traced lines shall indicate the number of tracers required. 10.5.7 For minimum temperatures it is necessary to consider low ambient temperature and auto-refrigeration. Auto-refrigeration requires special consideration and the CONTRACTOR shall provide an Atmospheric Flash Temperature. This information shall be recorded on the Process Data Sheet for equipment and the Design Pressure and Temperature Diagram for piping. The design conditions for each specific autorefrigeration case shall be determined by CONTRACTOR in consultation with others such as PTT or Statutory Authority. The CONTRACTOR shall record the lower design temperature and pipe specification on the line list. 10.6 Design Pressure

10.6.1 The design pressure shall not be less than the pressure at the most severe condition of coincident internal or external pressure and temperature expected during operation. The design pressure shall be the maximum of:-

Design pressure of connected equipment. Set pressure of PSV protecting the system. Pump shut-off pressure for centrifugal pumps when not protected by a PSV. Pump discharge pressure at overspeed for turbine driven centrifugal pumps.

Note: In all cases check to ensure that hydraulic heads have been included. Refer to Appendix M Basis for Selection of Piping Design Conditions. 10.7 Field Test Pressure

10.7.1 Field Test Pressure shall be determined as International Code and Standard. It should be noted that this requires a hydrostatic test pressure up to the maximum allowed by the weakest part of the system under test. Special consideration shall be given to Revamps where test pressures may be affected by reduced corrosion allowances of existing piping etc. 10.7.2 Test pressures shall be entered in the line list. Test Pressures shall take into account Design Temperature in accordance with ANSI B31.3 or applicable design code. 10.7.3 Unless noted in the pipe specification wall thickness chart as calculated, the weakest part of the pipe line will be taken as the flanges. 10.8 Critical Lines

10.8.1 Critical lines which require special attention over and above routine engineering practice shall be flagged in the Line Classification List with a criticality code. 10.8.2 Three types of criticality coding shall be used (see table 1&2) to denote lines deemed critical for Process (coding C), Technological (coding T) or Piping (coding P) purposes. There shall be subdivisions, eg, P1, P2 etc, within each criticality coding type as shown in tables 1 and 2. 10.8.3 In cases where the issues of criticality are covered entirely within a pipe class, or a plant-wide specification or instruction, such lines shall not be flagged as critical in the Line Classification List. 10.8.4 Wherever possible, criticality codes shall be identified and flagged as early as possible. All criticality codes shall be identified and shown in the issue for approve revision of Line Classification List. 10.9 Wall Thickness The Line Classification List shall show the wall thickness of all lines where the thickness is not given in the Piping Material Specifications. The wall thickness of piping not covered by piping specifications shall be calculated.

SPC-0804.02-99.02 PAGE: 21 OF 35 REV: D2

When piping covered by a Piping Material Specification must have Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT), the abbreviation PWHT shall be noted in the "Remarks" column of the Line Classification List opposite all affected lines. 10.11 Piping Material Specification Piping Material shall be selected from a series of Standard Piping Material Specifications the appropriate specifications for each line. See Piping Material Specification SPC 0804.02-50.02 for a list of available standard piping specifications. When no standard specification exists for the service, the CONTRACTOR shall develop one specifically for the project. 11.0 11.1 TIE-INS Revamps, modification of, or addition to existing plants shall be represented in either two ways:a) By new P&ID showing the new equipment and pipelines with sufficient existing equipment shown to indicate the location and to provide an understanding of the process flow. Existing facilities shall be shown by dashed lines OR By changing or adding to existing P&ID.

b) 11.2

Tie-ins or stubs into existing pipelines will be identified by the P&ID number and a serial number thus:CONTRACT NO. 13240 3502 01 UNIT NO. 002 P&ID SERIAL INO. TIE-IN SERIAL NO.

11.3 11.4 11.5

Redundant piping and equipment shall be shown by hatching. Existing equipment re-used in a new location will be re-numbered and indicated as new equipment with a note to refer to its former designation. Care must be taken when showing 'tie-in' connections to ensure location is correctly specified on the P&ID. Add flanges when necessary to clarify "existing, or new".

APPENDIX M - BASIS FOR SELECTION OF PIPING DESIGN CONDITIONS M1. Normally design conditions of equipment shall be specified on a Design Pressure/Temperature Flow Diagram in accordance with the criteria given in Section 11 of this Standard and Process Design Guideline. There will, however, be circumstances where the application of the above criteria will be unnecessarily restrictive e.g. addition of 50 F to an operating temperature of 1000 F could result in excessive pipe wall thickness or change material selection. Where exceptions are necessary then short term over pressurisation and/or allowance for metal temperatures as permitted by ANSI B31.3 can be considered. These cases will be the exception rather than the rule and shall only be implemented if a) The conditions required by the code are fulfilled e.g. for over pressurisation. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. b) c) M3. There is no cast iron or non-ductile metal in the system. Nominal pressure stress does not exceed the yield stress at temperature. Limits for combined longitudinal stresses are not exceeded. Number of cycles will not exceed 7000 during life of system. Piping system does not contain a category M fluid. The over pressurisation is short term.

M2.

The conditions are discussed and agreed by PTT/CONSULTANT. The basis and calculations are recorded on the appropriate form and retained in the Project Safety File.

The criteria for selection of design and operating conditions given in this standard shall apply to the conditions selected for the Basic Engineering Design Data (BEDD).
