Prewire Process

This document will guide you through the proper order of


events to complete a prewire in a timely manner. This is
only an overview and does not cover individual steps

involved in a prewire. Prewires are the first step in
completing a project. It is also the most important step in
assuring that the project can be delivered as promised.

Process:
1. Make sure you have the proper paperwork to complete the prewire.
You must be familiar with all prewire processes before completing a
prewire.
2. You will never be alone on a prewire. The steps below can be
distributed between techs and completed simultaneously as long as
they are in the proper order.
3. Once you arrive at the jobsite, unload all tools and equipment needed for the
prewire and stage it in an orderly fashion on the jobsite.
4. Get power to the jobsite. Every jobsite will have temporary power pole located
somewhere onsite.
5. Walk the jobsite and mark all wire locations according to the paperwork supplied
to you for the job. Also use this opportunity to note any problems or deviations
associated with the paperwork.
6. If the head end location is not already noted on the paperwork, decide where
your head end will be based on framing and wire paths. Drill your wire chase
holes. ( Refer to the Wire Chase process)
7. Mount the SME panel at the head end location.
8. If the house is multi level then complete the following steps starting
with the top floor.
9. Drill all of the holes you will need to complete the wiring on this floor. Remember
there is a standard on hole size.
10.Place all of the wire you will need at the location where the wire will be pulled.
11. Label the wire as indicated on the paperwork. Remember to also label the
box if there are multiple wires at one location. Place the labeled end of
the wire through the hole you drilled to be prepared to pull the wires. Before
pulling the wires refer to the Wire Routing Guidelines process.
12. Pull all of the wires to the head end being sure to bring all of the wires together
into one trunk.
13.Repeat the process until all of the wires for the top floor are at the head end.
14. Starting at the head end, secure all of the wires according to the Securing
Wire Trunk process.
15. Secure the wires in the J-box. Refer to the J-Box Termination process.
16.Refer back to the paperwork to make sure that no wires were missed. This floor
should be 100% complete before moving to another floor.
17.Repeat the process for any other floors on the jobsite.
18. Do not forget the service feeders. Refer to the Service Feeders process.
19. Install the service conduit if it is required. Refer to the Service Conduit
process.
20. Once all of the wires are ran and secured, complete the head end. Refer to the
Head End Guidelines process.
21. Install nail plates where they are needed. Refer to Nail Plates process.
22. Walk the jobsite and clean up any of debris left from completing the prewire.
Refer to the Jobsite Cleanup process.
23. Complete the checklist and all associated paperwork. Refer to the Paperwork
Completion process.
24.Take pictures.
25.Load all equipment and tools.
26. Place a sign on the site. Refer to the Smarthomes Chattanooga Yard Sign
process.
