The ASBUILT drawings supplied shows a safe bearing pressure of 1.0 kg/cm2. Due to absence of live load and dead load coming from the superstructure details we back calculate the loading from the bearing pressure. Allowable bearing pressure = = However for the design considerations we take the SBC as = 1.0 100 200 kg/cm2 kPa kPa

This is for increasing the loading which is expected from the superstructure. So for the given dimension the column load And hence Dc Load from the column Dead Load from the soil covering the Foundation Ds = = = = Approximately = Total Design Load = (Ds + Dc) For this design we use Load Factor Design Method (LFD). The Group I factored loads as per AASHTO are calculated from the footing loads Since the foundation structure is symmetrical about the center of base of the footing the sum of all HORIZONTAL forces and MOMENTS gets nullified. But the vertical forces are considered Fy = (BDDc + BDDs) = 1.3 (1.0 x 50 + 1.0 x 53) = 133.9 kN 134 kN = 50 50 kN kN

So the Centroid is at (1.5/2) = 0.75 m from the Outer Pile. Eccentricity e = (1.5/2) 0.75 = 0.0 m

And hence there is no Eccentricity in our design case. Due to the absence of the Eccentricity the vertical load are distributed equally to the outer and inner piles. That is, Outer Pile Vertical Load = Inner Pile Vertical Load = Fy/2=134/2 Inner pile Axial loading Determine Structural and Geotechnical Pile Design Strength Use Reinforcing Bar of 25 mm diameter of grade 520 steel Bar Area = 491 mm2 = Fybar = 520 MPa = 67 kN 71.3 kN

Soil Condition and the method of pile installation can affect the resulting diameter of the pile bond length. For this example assume a drill-hole diameter of 50 mm greater that the drilled diameter of the pile. Therefore GROUTdia = GROUT Area = 150+50 31429 mm2 = 200 mm
