1 Functional Description
1.1 Overview
ThePCI-5SandPCM-5SenablesimpleintegrationofGPSfunctionalityintoMIDs 1,UMPCs,laptopsandsimilar applications.ThePCI-5SandPCM-5Sareready-to-usesolutions,composedofaGPSchipsetincorporatedinto thePCIExpressMiniorHalfMiniCardplatform. ThePCI-5SandPCM-5SsetthestandardforGPSmodules.Featuringthehighperformance50-channelu-blox-5 positioning engine, these receivers provide excellent performance and flexibility at an economical price. A 32-channel acquisition engine with over 1 million effective correlators is capable of massive parallel searches. ThisenablesaTimeToFirstFix(TTFF)oflessthan1second,whilelongcorrelation/dwelltimesmakepossiblethe best-in-class acquisition and tracking sensitivity. The PCI-5S and PCM-5S include KickStart, a new feature enablingacceleratedacquisitionofweaksignals.Onceacquired,satellitesarepassedontoapower-optimized dedicatedtrackingengine.ThisarrangementallowstheGPSenginetosimultaneouslytrackupto16satellites whilesearchingfornewones. u-blox-5s advanced jamming suppression mechanism and innovative RF architecture provides a high level of immunitytojamming,ensuringmaximumGPSperformance. 1.4 Assisted GPS (A-GPS)

Supplyofaidinginformationlikeephemeris,almanac,roughlastposition,time,andsatellitestatusreducestime to first fix significantly and improves the acquisition sensitivity. The PCI-5S and PCM-5S support the u-blox AssistNowOnlineandOffline-GPSservices.

1.5 KickStart
A newfeature available with u-blox-5 receivers is KickStart. This functionality usesa TCXO to accelerateweak signalacquisition,enablingfasterstartandreacquisitiontimes.

1.6 On/Off Control (W_Disable)

ThePCI-5SandPCM-5SincludeaW_DISABLEpin,whichallowstheboardtobeturnedoffwhennotneeded.
