Philip Harris Page 3 Biographical Sketch In 1985, I taught my first year at Southwest High School in San Anton io, Texas. This was a school of about 1400 with 75% Hispanic students. I taught Vocational Computer Programming and Word Processing. I taught under an emergency certification and the next year I did not return due to budget cuts. This was a t the peak oil price crises and I worked the following year at Computer Output M icrofilm in Chicago. In 1988, I did my student teaching at James Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas. I student taught in Computer Science and Sociology for all high school gr ades in a school with about 2500 students. In 1989, I taught at Glen Rose High School in Glen Rose, Texas. This is a small high school with about 300 students. I taught Computer Science I and II and Comp uter Math. In 1990 I began service at William James Middle School in Fort Worth, Texas. Thi s is a large middle school of about 1200 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. It is locate in the inner city in a low-income area. The student population is abou t 90% African American and 10% Hispanic. My teaching responsibility was On Campu s Suspension for students with discipline problems. In 1992, I started teaching a Kirby Junior High in San Antonio, Tex as as a Computer Literacy teacher. By going to this position I had an opportunit y to participate in a graduate extension program offered by Texas A & M Universi ty. Kirby Junior High is a large school with more than 1200 seventh and eighth g raders. It is in a working class neighborhood, and with approximately 38% Hispan ic and 33% African American students. While at Kirby I finished my Masters Degre

e and did my Administrative Internship. I graduated from the 45-semester hour Graduate program with a 4.0 G.P.A. and 92% on the Mid Management Administration ExCET. In 1996, I was in Springview, Nebraska where I worked as a Third and Fourth grad e teacher and Principal in a small Elementary school. This school had 70 student s, and I supervised six teachers. In 1997 I taught at Floresville Middle School as a Computer Literacy and Content Mastery Center teacher, a middle school with more than 550 students. After two years at the middle school I became a Fourth Grade Special Education teacher at Floresville Elementary. In this school I work in five teachers classroom with t wenty-five special education students doing inclusion. I also do one hour a day of resource. This is a large elementary of more than 1100 students in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades with about 54% Hispanic students.

Philip Harris Page 4 Biographical Sketch Continued For the next two years I served as Assistant Principal at Ganado High School i n Ganado, Texas. Ganado High School is a 7th through 12th school with 360 stude nts about 39% of which are Hispanic. While in Ganado I have I got my certificat ion for superintendent at The University of Houston in Victoria. I also assiste d the district in a DEC visit in. Following my position at Ganado I worked at Wharton High School. This is a sc hool with 735 students 9th through 12th grade. Currently there are about 31% Af rican American and 38% Hispanic student in this school and it is an Exemplary sc hool. Next I was the Principal of Silsbee Middle School, which is a 6th through 8th grade school with 700 students. At the start of this year we experienced a scho ol reorganization in which the 6th grade was added to the campus. We also start ed out the year with 14 of the 44 teachers being new to the district out of whic h 9 were first year teacher 6 of which were in an alternative certification prog ram. I then served as Director of Special Education for Lake Ray Hubbard Shared Ser vices Arrangement (SSA) after serving Silsbee. The Arrangement includes the sch ool districts of Kemp ISD and Scurry - Rosser ISD. We are responsible for speci al education services in both districts with Kemp ISD being the physical agent. I currently serve as Assistant Principal at Palacios Texas High School and Jun ior High, severing a community that is 50% Hispanic and 20% Vietnamese.
