HISTORY
The New York State Assembly & Senate Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force was founded in 1987 by Puerto Rican legislators who made it their personal commitment to focus on the needs and concerns of the States growing Hispanic Community. In the beginning the Task Force consisted of 7 elected officials; it has now grown to 19 legislators. These members are currently fighting for the rights and needs of the Hispanic Community. They continue to uphold their mission to increase the participation of the Hispanic Community in the public policy making process.

OUR MISSION
Hispanics are the largest growing population in New York State and the least represented in policy making positions. In recent years, the Hispanic population has grown both in number and stature. The 2011 census data revealed that the Hispanic Population in New York State grew by over 19% from the last census data. We must work together to ensure that our people are represented in all aspects of government, business, and community. Educating our youth and preparing them for college/careers is of vital importance for their future and our economy. Hispanics face more serious health issues than non-Hispanics and because of this we must focus on prevention and education and not respond with crisis reaction medical treatment.
