Dear Applicant:
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a non-profit organization
founded in 1881 to promote equality for all women, life long education and positive
societal change. In keeping with these goals, our Southeast Valley Branch is initiating a
yearly scholarship of $1,000 to be awarded to outstanding women desiring to complete
their education and prepare themselves to make a worthwhile contribution within the
community.
The qualifications for this scholarship are:
1. Applicant must be a female resident of the City of Chandler, attending a public
high school.
2. Applicant will attend an accredited in-state college/university in the fall of 2012.
3. Applicant will submit a copy of her high school transcript. (GPA of 2.5 or better)
4. Applicant will provide three references (Letters of Recommendation):
Personal reference - family member- parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt/uncle
Community reference - religious leader, employer, coach or sponsor
Academic reference - teacher, counselor, or administrator
5. Applicant will provide a personal statement of no more than one page.
6. Application must reach your high school career counseling office by Friday,
March 30, 2012, and the AAUW Scholarship Committee no later than Friday,
April 6, 2012.
7. Determination of recipient will not be based solely on GPA. Serious consideration
will also be given to need, community involvement, school activities, and
recommendations.
8. Recipient will submit the required information for scholarship funds payment by
December 31st of the year in which the scholarship is awarded. If payment
application is not properly made by that date, all funds will be forfeited.
