RULES TO MAKE ADVERBS AND ADJECTIVES IN COMPARATIVE FORM. 1. Short adjectives and adverbs add er + than. Example: Slow = slower than Nice = nicer than Cheap = cheaper than Small = smaller than 2. Long adjectives and adverbs cant add er so you must put the word more + adj / adv + than Example : Attractive = more attractive than Expensive = more expensive than Popular = more popular than 3. One syllable adjectives ends in a single vowel + consonant, double the consonant and add er. Examples : Big = bigger than Hot = hotter than 4. Two syllable adjectives ends in a consonant + y change y by i and add er. Example : Noisy = noisier than Easy = easier than Happy = happier than 5.
