Educational History
2:1 degree in Political Science and International Relations at the Centro de Investigacin y Docencia Econmicas (CIDE), June 2006- August 2011. CIDE was ranked #1 university in Mexico in the field of social sciences from 2006 to 2010 by Las Mejores Universidades poll of Grupo Reforma. I finished my studies with a final GPA of 3.50, obtaining my degree through a major research work titled Are the countries that have a substantial level of Islamic banking financially more stable than the western countries? If they are, why? I empirically investigated the impact of Islamic banking on the financial stability of a country. To do this I created a database, from the period of 1992 to 2008 and with 151countries, to generate five statistical models that would observe the impact of 16 economic and political variables on the z-score, a measurement of banking soundness. Exchange semester at the University of Florence (January-May 2010).
Scholarships
After my first semester at CIDE (December 2006), I was awarded with a scholarship that reduced by 75% my second semesters tuition fees. I obtained the scholarship because my grades were among the top three grades of my class. Participated in the simulation of the Cmara de Diputados. In 2008 I was in charge of organising the students from other invited institutions and served as a mediator in some of the UN mock resolutions. Participated in university organised debates. Each year my university organises a competition of debates where national issues of interest are put up for discussion in teams in order to asses the argumentative skills, clarity and logical reasoning of each group (CIDEBATE 2009/2nd place out of 20 participating teams). Played a key part in the Organisational Committee of the colloquium Arab-Israeli conflict (2009). representatives of the foundations and international organisms that were supporting us to guarantee that the financial statements of the NGO were in order. For the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture 2011 application call, I was personally in charge of the setting of the budget and the academic research that would constitute the body of the proposal. The grant was approved and we received 60 000 US dollars in funding and the project is now being implemented. Worked in the research department to investigate policy, cases and strategies that had proven effective in enhancing human rights and assisted in the collaboration with the local authorities to implement them successfully. I was assigned to help in the setting up of two workshops for the prevention of torture in the recently reformed Mexican criminal justice system, a project funded by USAID. The workshops developed without incidents and were praised by Mexicos city government and the press. I also worked with the databases the NGO created and interpreted them for the periodical publications and reports. I was commissioned to do the 2010 organisations annual report. After finishing it I also made the translation to English for its dissemination during our attendance to the 17th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. Finally, I assisted in the organisation and planning of the institutional main events.
