Experiential design is something that holds my interest.

A lot of what Ive learned in the last couple years has showed me that experiential design involves

Visual Communication, Experimentation, User Experience, sound and motion, and Interactive Design.

How can the exploration of experiential design help to create a powerful experience with the consideration of multimedia, sound and motion, interactive design, user experience, and visual communication?

Sunday, January 22, 12

The question That Ive asked myself is, How can the exploration of experiential design help to create a powerful experience with the consideration of multimedia, sound and motion, interactive design, user experience, and visual communication? I have selected pieces from my portfolio that relate to this question.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION

Sunday, January 22, 12

With this project, I used the principles of visual communication to appeal to DIYers to barter with one another. In doing so, they can SCREW consumerism, cut consumerism, and erase consumerism. This project is intended to demonstrate the communication of a concept to the viewer in a visually compelling way.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION

HOW ABOUT a little overdose of yumminess with a sip of Acai berry tea. Ive learned that a little bit of humorous irony, and some rich imagery can go a long way in catching the attention of a consumer and persuading them through visual and verbal rhetoric. This package design is intended to leave the viewer with a thought-provoking and memorable experience.

SOUND & MOTION

Here is an example of how sound and motion can be used in an interesting and compelling way.

INTERACTIVE DESIGN

Sunday, January 22, 12

With an understanding of interactive design, I have learned how to create a system and interface that can easily be navigated by the the user. This app is designed for a younger audience to collaborate through visual art, dance, literature, and music.

When navigating through this application, the user can choose from a selection of literature. Once they nd something they want to read, they can also view photography or illustration that other users have added.

EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN

Sunday, January 22, 12

THIS project is a way-nding system, or map designed for children. Its goal is to get the kids to wander their way around the Grounds of The Nelson-Atkins Museum and to discover 5 of the sculptures that were a part of the event.

EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN

Sunday, January 22, 12

As you can see, Its not a typical map. The idea is for the kids to match the real landscape with what they see in their book, and then to proceed to discover the sculpture.

EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN

Sunday, January 22, 12

Each page gives a fact about the sculpture, and tells the kids where to go next with that arrow. This project is an example of experiential design because the user is completely immersed and has a full experience in a real environment.

EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN

Sunday, January 22, 12

This last project involves an interactive poster that is designed for the residents of the Ivanhoe area, here in Kansas city. The poster asks people, what are the things that really bring people together? what makes a strong community? It invites them to share their own thought on the poster. They can say something inspirational, energetic, political, loving, or whatever they want.

EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN

Sunday, January 22, 12

There is a series of these posters.

The messages are then taken from those posters and

implemented onto this public signage that sits in the area of Ivanhoe.

Above the sign is a small speaker that literally speaks out the messages to passers by.

DEGREE PROJECT...

Sunday, January 22, 12

For my degree project...

GOAL
TO explore AND LEARN ABOUT experiential Design.

Sunday, January 22, 12

The goal is to EXPLORE and learn about experiential design.

A REAL EXPERIENCE
dont think it, feel it

Sunday, January 22, 12

I intend to nd out how I can make a message more powerful. My idea is to let the viewer experience a concept. *CLICK for example, if you have the word FEEL in 3 dimensional letter forms, and the viewer feels the letters, then they would experience the concept of, 'to feel.

EXPERIENTIAL NARRATIVE
through a sensory experience

Sunday, January 22, 12

I may also explore how to make a story more meaningful or experiential by changing the environment according to the narrative...*CLICK for example, if you were to watch a lm about the winter, would it be more real if you actually felt cold while you were watching it? feeling cold could help make the allusion of the narrative more impactful.

A CHANGE IN ENVIRONMENT
to change the user experience

Sunday, January 22, 12

I also would explore how I can make a particular experience more memorable or impactful by using projection. Heres an example*CLICK

experiential design can

BRING TOGETHER COMMUNITY

Sunday, January 22, 12

- And nally, I would experiment with how experiential design can bring people together. Heres a cool example of how that can happen.

By the end of next semester I plan to come up with one or more artifacts that demonstrate how effective experiential design can be at communicating a message, or telling a story.
