CHAPTER II REVIEW OR RELATED STUDIES AND LITERATURE

Isopropyl Alcohols are clear, colourless mobile liquid used in antifreeze compounds, in lotions and cosmetics, and as a solvent for gums, shellac, and essential oils. It is being crucially affected on fires which prove that it is flammable. Isopropyl Alcohol is mainly produced by propylene or propene. (According to the eReference article) Propene, Propylene, or Methyelethylene is an unsaturated organic compound that was produced or created from fossil fuelspetroleum, natural gas, and coal as a much lesser extent. At room temperature and atmospheric pressure, propene is a gas, and as with many other alkenes, it is also colourless with a weak but unpleasant smell. (According to encyclopaedias) , everyone uses isopropyl alcohol to clean scrapes, but there are many uncommon uses for this common household item that can save you time and money on the following (According to Home Improvement):

Mirrors - Isopropyl alcohol works great at removing any sticky residue, such as hair spray, from mirrors or glass.

Permanent marker - on a hard countertop may seem impossible to remove, but isopropyl alcohol will dissolve the marker and let you wipe it away.

Ice Pack - sixing one part isopropyl alcohol with three parts water in a plastic bag, then freezing, will create a cheap ice pack to keep lunches cold or soothe an achy knee.

CD/DVDs - smudged discs are a pain to play without skipping, but wiping your CDs or DVDs with isopropyl alcohol will remove stains and smudges without harming data. Other than Isopropyl Alcohol, there are more types of alcohols that are being made. One

of the examples is Ethyl Alcohol or Ethanol. Ethyl Alcohol can be determined as beers, wines, champagne, and other alcoholic beverages which is also flammable. According to the General Chemistry Case Studies, each of the beverages has a certain rate of alcohol content on the following chart (Proof is the rate of Proof Ethanol):

BEVERAGE BEER WINE CHAMPAGNE DISTILLED SPIRITS

PERCENT ALCOHOL PROOF 46 7 15 8 14 40 95 8 12 14 30 16 28 80 190

In the graph above, beverage show the types of drinking alcohol. The percent of alcohol determines the rate of the presence of alcohol on the specific beverage. Proof tells the amount of ethanol on the specific beverage. All in all, this graph shows that drinking equivalent amounts of beer, wine, champagne, or distilled spirits will provide greatly varying amounts of alcohol to the drinker. As alcohol beverages, they can still be useful in many ways. It can be used in thermometers, manufacture of varnishes and perfumes as a solvent.
