Problems, Causes and Solutions of the Power Shortage Problems

This research paper analyses the following 1) What are the Problems related to Power Production and Distribution 2) Causes for the above 3) Solutions for the Problems The following document gives clear Idea of The Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electricity in Tamilnadu. http://tnenvis.nic.in/PDF/energy.pdf The following document shows the good budget making tactics of Ammas Government. http://www.tnvat.gov.in/English/budgetspeech2011_2012e.pdf

This following document gives clear idea of Tamilnadus Finances related to some particular Ministries. Ministry of Electricity is one among them. http://www.tn.gov.in/budget/archives/white5-3.html Problems: 1) Reduced generation from Atomic power Stations at Kalpakkam & Kaiga and Neyveli expansion projects and delay in the commissioning of Kudankulam Atomic Power Plant are some of the chief reasons attributable to the power shortage during 2009-10. 2) Low quality of coal was imported from other countries for excess price. Because of this TNEB lost around 1000 crores per year. We have the evidence in the following news article. So TNEB lost around 5000 crores in the past 5 years only from the coal import because of the hidden business dealings with DMK and Karunanidhi Family. Low-calorific coal at high cost http://www.deccanherald.com/content/61793/jaya-alleges-1000-cr-coal. html 3) Poor Maintenance of Power plants and all the related infrastructure and equipments including the Transmission and Distribution Systems caused the depreciation of the asset values and wastage of the machineries caused huge loss to the Ministry and the TNEB. 4) Repeated strikes of workers and labourers in the Power plants during the past five years were the other causes of the electricity generation, transmission and distribution 5) No Power Sector Reforms were implemented during the past five years to add the efficiency and performance improvement in the Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution

6) One important Project-Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project is not commissioned till due to the opposition because of political and other motives by some particular sections of people. 7) The share of Central government and the National Grid Corporation of India to the state in the Electricity Supply is less compared to the Northern States 8) No awareness with the people about the efficient use of power supply and wastage 9) Electricity theft is also a major cause for the Power supply shortage 10) No major investment on research and development and support for Renewable Energy Resources 11) No proper Insurance of The assets owned by the TNEB and the electricity Ministry Solutions: 1) Capacity addition. More Power plants including Conventional and non-conventional should be included 2) More Green initiatives should be introduces and Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Resources should be supported like Solar, Wind and Bio-Mass plants 3) More Public and Private sector participation should happen for the cheap supply of electricity 4) TNEB is also procuring power depending upon the availability, through power exchanges on day ahead basis. 5) Generators within Tamil Nadu are being allowed to sell power to HT consumers through intra- state open access. Presently this is to the tune of 120 MW.

6) High Tension Industries also have been permitted to procure power both through inter-state and intra-state open access. 7) Depending upon the availability of power in the market, action is being taken to procure additional power to bridge the gaps whenever called for. 8) It is, therefore, necessary that subsidy benefits are targeted to ensure that the economic cost of producing and supplying power are at least recovered in order improve the existing levels of generation and distribution. 9) Moreover, attention needs to be paid for reducing cost in the procurement of raw materials and other inputs and ensuring cost effective materials and inventory management 10) Energy Management and supply of UPS, Battery and other power saving techniques for households with cheap price with private sector participation 11) The following reasons highlight the urgency for immediate reforms in the power sector in Tamilnadu: a. The situation has become unsustainable both in the short term and in the long run. The State Government, given its precarious financial position, may not be able to meet its support commitments to the TNEB in the current financial year. b. External financial institutions are unwilling to lend assistance to the State Government until comprehensive reforms are taken up in the power sector. c. The Government of India has also linked further assistance under the Accelerated Power Development Programme to signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with it, which requires power sector reforms. 12) Immediate commissioning of Koodankulam Power Project and propagating the awareness about the safety and precautionary steps taken to protect the Power Project.

a) Video Footage about the awareness about the KKNPP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abQMBQ02QZk All these protest are just provoking activities againt Jayalalitha Amma to tarnish her Image for political gains. Watch the video on Youtube. http://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/article2612339.ece http://www.thehindu.com/news/states/tamil-nadu/article2791040.ece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym8USDXDm44 13) Proper Insurance for the Infrastructure and other Machineries and equipments for the TNEB and other Ministries 14) I have some request to Amma!!!! Now the TNEB and all the Ministries in Tamilnadu which is related to Power Production in Tamilnadu should do immediate ground work to resolve the Power Shortage Issues. There is a Conference going to happen in Coimbatore on Feb 18 and 19. Amma should encourage and instruct the related Secretaries , Chief Engineers , Superintending Engineers and the related Ministers to take part in the conference and encourage the Innovative concepts of Power Production using the Non-Conventional Energy like Solar, Wind, Bio-Gas etc and should review the research papers submitted by bright young Engineers. http://www.conferencealerts.com/seeconf.mv?q=ca1s08m0 Related links are http://www.iacsit.org/icpdre/ http://www.conferencealerts.com/renew.htm

The above mentioned information is simply tentative and subjected to be reviewed by subject matter experts and scientists.

If we Innovate and implement the ideas, Tamilnadu will become a power surplus state instead of power shortage state and even can supply electricity to the National Grid Corporation of India and the neighbour states and can earn revenues. This revenue can be used for the welfare of our State People and the development of Infrastructure. Some of the Images we are familiar.
