Fine Arts Festival
Dont forget to mark your calendar for our 6th Annual Coretta Scott King Magnet School Fine Arts Festival. This exciting night will be held on Thursday, April 19th. All students will have artwork exhibited at our school art show, and we look forward to musical performances from the CSK Messengers, band students, and select student groups. Be on the lookout for more Study Island goal Students who earn 5 blue ribbons from Friday to Friday will receive a special prize. Study Island is a great tool to help students prepare for the ISAT test in a fun way. Students must take the pretest for math and reading first. This allows students to use the math lessons at home. They can play games, review lessons, and take practice tests. Next week we will take the reading pretest. After that is complete they can use the reading lessons as well. I gave every student their

Curriculum Highlights Math: Last week we wrapped up Chapter 7 on time and we took the chapter test this week. Next week we will begin Chapter 8 which is about data. A family math packet will be sent home about this topic. Students should begin memorizing basic multiplication facts. We will start timed fact tests next week. Students will 5 minutes to complete 100 problems. They will start on zeros and ones. They have to score 100% to move on to the next number. Family Math Letter: With each chapter I will send home a family math packet. This reviews the skills and includes extra practice and games for you to do with your child at home. It will be kept in practice pocket of the Bee Folders. It does not need to be completed or turned in, it is only meant to supplement and reinforce what we are doing at school. Going over these skills and games would be a great way to prepare for the test on Tuesday! Inquiry: This week, we read about myths, legends and tall tale in our Social Studies book. Students completed a chart including character traits, character actions of each genre character. Spelling: Students need to practice their spelling words throughout the week. The spelling test on Friday counts towards a Language Arts grade. Spelling City reminder: Go to spellingcity.com to play and learn spelling words. B.E.E. Folders: B.E.E. Folders (Bring Everything Everyday) are meant to help with organization and communication. It is very important that your child brings their folder to school everyday. Please check the folder daily. The left at home side of the folder for important notes and graded papers. The right back to school side is where students should keep their homework. Any money or notes should be kept in the pouch.
