a. Policy Statement:
It is the policy of Saudi German Hospital Riyadh (SGHR) to protect patient’s valuables from
loss or theft during the stay at hospital in order to achieve high quality service and care for its
patients.

b. Purposes:
1. To provide a safe and secure environment where the patient’s valuables are protected
from loss or theft during the stay at Saudi German Hospital Riyadh.
2. To fulfill Saudi German Hospital ethical commitment to patient, family and
community about safety and security at the hospital premises.
3. To assure compliance with Bill of Patient and Family Rights and Responsibilities and
to provide a patient centered quality healthcare which meets international standards.

χ. Definitions
e. Accompanied Patient: Thos patients, who are brought to the hospital by relatives,
friends or guardian / sponsor.
f. Unaccompanied Patient: Those patients, who come to hospital alone or who may be
brought by Police, Red Crescent, or somebody other than relatives, friends or
guardian / sponsor.
g. Conscious Patient: Those patients, who are awake and aware of their surroundings
and identity, when reach the hospital.
h. Unconscious Patients: Those patients, who are not awake and not aware of their
surroundings and identity, when reach the hospital.
i. Police Case: These include the medico-legal cases such as suicidal attempt, stab in-
juries, physical assaults, child abuse, and drug abuse.

δ. Procedures and Responsibilities:

Procedure Sequence

1 All accompanied and conscious patients will be notified by the


polyclinic receptionist or admission & discharge (A & D) Staff that
the hospital management is not responsible for their personal
belongings, so it is better to hand over the valuables to their
accompanied person.
If an accompanied and conscious patient refuses to hand over his / Polyclinic
2 her valuables to the accompanied person, then he will be informed Receptionist /
about the safe boxes in polyclinic area and each patient’s room. A & D Staff
The key of the safe box will be provided by the polyclinic Polyclinic

Identity Card, Iqama or Passport (if the patient is expatriate) A & D Staff

All accompanied and conscious patients, who visited the hospital
for some radiological, laboratory, physiotherapy, chemotherapy or Concerned

day-care procedure, will be provided with a safe box in the Department
concerned area, if they desire.
The key of the safe box will be provided to patient by the

back to the patient when he/she will hand over the key to

The accompanied person of an unconscious patient will be notified


by the staff nurse of the concerned department to take care of

patients’ valuables and if he refuses to do so, the procedure of
unaccompanied and unconscious patient will be used.
All unaccompanied and unconscious patients’ valuables will be

The patients’ valuables will be placed in Patients’ Valuables Staff Nurse /

the patient after he/she gains conscious and desires to have valuables Staff Nurse /

15 Safe box in each department will be checked by the nursing Nursing
