RESPONSE TO THE WORD

TIME OF REFLECTION *HYMN OF RESPONSE Cast Out, O Christ W&S #3072

Thank you for worshiping with us today! In between our services, you are invited for coffee and fellowship on the deckwed love to get to know you better!

WE PRAY FOR OTHERS The pastor will share prayer requests and the congregation will respond: Lord, hear our prayer. After the prayers have been lifted, we will pray together the Lords Prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. OFFERING OUR GIFTS AND PRAYERS Offering envelopes may be found inside front cover of UM Hymnal.

THOSE LEADING IN WORSHIP TODAY Rev. Jeanne Devine will bring the sermon. Our worship leader for the 8:30 service is Kim Royal and for the 10:50 service is Angela Bonner. Media Managers today are Kathy Beth Stavinoha (8:30) and Darian Crevir (10:50). Julie Burns leads our Childrens Time. We thank all our greeters, ushers, and acolytes. CHURCH NURSERY Child care is available for children up to age 5 in the church nursery on Sunday mornings. Children are always welcome in the sanctuary.

Ushers will collect yellow cards; please pass yours down to the end of the row. PRAYER OF CONFESSION Mighty God, we love to hear your deeds of power and might, imagining that we would not tremble with fear, if we saw you before us in a pillar of fire or column of smoke. But as we wander lost in our own wilderness, we know only too well our own fear and dread of being in your awesome presence. Send us prophets to teach us your ways. Help us recognize them within our midst, that we might hear your words in the lessons they teach. Amen.

Announcements Plan to enjoy lunch in the Fellowship Hall today following the 10:50 service. Bring your favorite foods to share; beverages will be provided. Due to heavy rain last Tuesday and Wednesday, three rooms used by the church and childcare center (nursery room 2, childrens classrooms 3 and 4) experienced serious water damage. Immediate steps were taken to remove the water; further inspection revealed the need to remediate mold and mildew and deal with asbestos. Our trustees and the childcare board and staff are working together to carry out plans to complete repairs and return to normal operations as soon as possible. It will be several weeks, however, before repairs will be complete. Today, church members attending the potluck lunch at noon are requested to stay for a brief time afterward, if at all possible, and assist the childcare staff in moving furniture and supplies from the affected classrooms into the CLC. Your help will benefit dozens of families who entrust their children to our care here at Berkeley. Contribution statements for 2011 are available today in the narthex (lobby). Please stop for a moment to pick yours up; you will help reduce our mailing costs. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. The Youth Fellowship will not meet today. Next Sunday, February 5, the Burns family will host a Super Bowl party in their home, 11100 Desert Willow Loop, starting at 5:00 p.m. Bring favorite foods and/or beverages to share. Contact Julie Burns, 694-9868, for more info.

January 29, 2012 Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany

Spiritual Care Committee invites the congregation to take part in the annual Valentine's "Secret Prayer Pals" event. Today we have a Valentine Basket and Box set in the Narthex. You select a heart from the basket, write on it your prayer request or concern, (anonymous is ok) and place it into the Valentine Box. On February 12th, the hearts will be drawn at random by everyone participating, for a week of intentional prayer focusing on the request written on the heart you've drawn. You may participate via your prayer request/concern, by praying for another's concern, or you may do both. Share your heart and your time Valentine's week!

Now through February 12, you may contribute toward the new anthem being written. You may want to make a contribution in honor or memory of someone who has nurtured your faith here. Note anthem on your check, made out to BUMC.

Would you like to serve as worship leader on Sunday mornings? You may sign up on the sheet on the white board in the narthex (lobby). New leaders are always welcome; instruction will be provided.
