PROGRAMMING A DEVICE
Flat DVD-TV Remote
The RadioShack 2-in-1 DVD-TV remote comes pre-programmed to operate an RCA TV and DVD player. To control devices other than default brands, follow these steps; otherwise, skip this section. Before proceeding, find the codes for the devices you want to program in Manufacturers Codes on the right side of this page and write them down or highlight them. NOTE: To program a TV or mobile LCD device, use the TV key. To program a DVD Player, TV/DVD Combo, TV/VCR/DVD Combo, portable DVD player, or mobile DVD player, use the DVD key. 1. Turn on the device (for example, DVD player) and, if needed, load media (for example, a DVD). 2. On the remote, press a device key (TV or DVD). 3. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks twice, then release. 4. Enter the first four-digit code for your device. The LED blinks once as each digit is entered. If the code is correct, the LED blinks twice. NOTE: If the LED does not blink twice, repeat steps 2 to 4 and try entering the code again. 5. Aim the remote at the device and press Power. The device should turn off. If it does not, repeat steps 25, trying each code for your brand until you find one that works. If you cannot find a code that works, see Searching for Your Code. 6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for the other device you want to control. For future reference, write down each working device code below:

Press the device mode key you selected in step 3 again. The LED blinks twice and turns off. Program the restored mode key to control a device. See Programming a Device.

TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM: LED does not blink when you press a key. SOLUTION: Replace battery with one new 3.3 V 2032 Lithium battery. PROBLEM: LED blinks when you press a key, but device does not respond. SOLUTION: Make sure the remote is aimed at your device and is not more than 15 feet away. PROBLEM: LED blinks one long blink. SOLUTION: An entry error has occurred (for example, wrong key). Try entry sequence again. PROBLEM: Remote does not control devices or commands are not working properly. SOLUTION: Try all listed codes for the device. Make sure the device operates with an infrared remote control. PROBLEM: CH+, CH-, and LAST do not work for your RCA TV. SOLUTION: Due to RCA design from 1983 to 1987, only the original remote control will operate these functions. PROBLEM: No volume on a second TV. SOLUTION: See Changing Volume Lock. PROBLEM: Channels do not change properly. SOLUTION: If the original remote control required you to press Enter to change channels, press Enter on this remote after entering the channel number.

Keep the remote dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and store the unit only in normal temperature environments. Handle the remote gently and carefully. Dont drop it. Wipe the remote with a damp cloth to keep it looking like new. Modifying or tampering with the internal parts can cause damage and invalidate the warranty. INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing a RadioShack 2-in-1 DVD-TV remote. Your remote lets you control two devices with one easy-to-use, compact unit. After removing the battery pull tab, you can immediately use the RadioShack 2-in-1 DVD-TV remote to control your RCA TV and DVD player. To control other brands, follow the instructions in Programming a Device. For best results, please read and follow all the remaining instructions. Also, keep this guide for future reference.

SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE

If your device does not respond to the remote after trying all codes listed for your brand, or if your brand is not listed, try searching for your code. For example, to search for a code for your TV: 1. Press TV once. 2. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks twice, then release. 3. Enter 9 9 1. The LED blinks twice. 4. Aim the remote at the TV and press Power. The remote sends IR codes from its library to the selected device, starting with the most popular code first. 5. If the TV responds, go to step 6. If the TV does not respond, press CH+. The remote will try the next code. Continue until the TV responds. Note: Press CH- to try the previous code. 6. To lock in the code, press P once. The LED blinks twice. 7. To search for DVD codes, repeat steps 1 to 6, substituting the DVD for TV.

Battery Use And Safety

Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type. Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. If you do not plan to use the remote for an extended period, remove the battery. It can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts. WARNING: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury them.

CHECKING THE CODES

If you have set up the remote using the procedure in Searching for Your Code, you may need to find out which four-digit code is operating your equipment. For example, to find out which code is assigned to your TV: 1. Press TV once. 2. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks twice, then release. 3. Enter 9 9 0. The LED blinks twice. 4. To view the code for the first digit, press 1. Count the LED blinks (for example, three blinks = 3), and write down the number in the appropriate code listing in step 6 under Programming a Device. NOTE: If a code digit is 0, the LED does not blink. 5. Repeat step 4 for the three remaining digits, using 2 for the second digit, 3 for the third digit, and 4 for the fourth digit. 6. To check for DVD codes, repeat steps 15, substituting the DVD for TV.

To Install Batteries:
1. Open the battery compartment cover (located on the back of the remote). 2. Place the 2032 Lithium battery in the compartment and match the + and - polarity symbols inside. 3. Replace the cover. NOTE: When the RadioShack 2-in-1 DVD-TV remote stops operating properly, replace the batteries within 10 minutes (to protect the programming information).

CHANGING VOLUME LOCK

The RadioShack 2-in-1 DVD-TV remote comes preset to allow independent volume control of each selected device (Global Volume Unlock). However, you may change the Volume Lock setting to Global Volume Lock so that one device's volume will control volume in all other modes. After that, you can perform Individual Volume Unlock on a selected device to set its volume control for independent operation.

Select the DVD player. Turn the selected device on or off. Select the TV. Program sequences. Select the next or previous channel. Select next or previous chapter on some models of DVD players. Press LAST to recall the last-viewed channel. Raise or lower the sound level. Press MUTE to turn the sound off or on. Move the cursor in the menu screens. Press Select to choose the highlighted menu option. Skip backward, rewind, fast forward, skip forward, stop, pause, or play tracks on the current disc. View information about the current track or disc. Display the menu for the TV or the current non-DVD disc. Return to the TV or video without making a menu selection. Choose options from the DVD players menu or guide. Switch the TV's or DVDs input between TV or video programs. Directly enter channels (for example, 09 or 31). Press +100 to enter channels over 100 (for example, +100, 3, 1 = 131). For a DVD player, use +100 to access chapters over 10 (for example, +100, 3 = 13). Press Enter to send channel number entries on some TV models.

Locking Volume Control to One Mode (Global Volume Lock)

1. 2. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks twice, then release. Enter 9 9 3 and then press the mode key for the device you want to control volume (for example, TV). The LED blinks twice. Now when you press VOL+, VOL-, or Mute, the selected device (for example, TV) will control the volume regardless of the current mode. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks twice, then release. Enter 9 9 3 and then press VOL+. The LED blinks four times. Volume is independently controlled for both programmed devices.

REASSIGNING DEVICE KEYS

Each device key accesses a specific type of device (for example, the DVD key can only be programmed to control a DVD Player, TV/ DVD Combo, TV/VCR/DVD Combo, portable DVD player, or mobile DVD player). This makes it easier to search for a code if your devices code does not appear on the list provided. Your new remote allows you to change the type of device that may be assigned to a device key. That way, if you have two TVs, for example, you can control them both by changing the type of device the DVD key controls. 1. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks twice, then release. 2. Enter 9 9 2. 3. Press the device mode key (TV or DVD) corresponding to the type of device you want the reassigned key to control (for example, TV). 4. Press the device mode key you want to reassign (for example, DVD). That LED blinks twice and turns off, indicating that the key has been reassigned. The reassigned key automatically uses the same device code as the key you selected in Step 1. If your second device uses a different code, you may program it for the new code. See Programming a Device.
