After all the joys and excitements of Christmas and New Year celebrations we are back to the Ordinary Time of the Year! After the celebration of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which was last Monday, January 9th, Ordinary Time begins. Ordinary does not mean plain. The name comes from ordinalis meaning "showing order, denoting an order of succession. It is used in this sense to refer to the order of the counted weeks. That is to say, it is a season of counted weeks. Ordinary Time after the Baptism focuses on the early life and childhood of Christ, and then on His public ministry. The liturgical color of Ordinary Time is green; however, as in all seasons, other appropriate colors are worn on particular feast days. Please welcome next weekend a visiting priest, Fr. Richard Tillman from the Christian Foundation for Children and the Aging (CFCA). I am told one of their representative priests were also here last year. He will be doing all the masses and confessions during the weekend of January 21st -22nd. Kindly look at the box in this bulletin for more information about him We will also have bulletin inserts about this foundation next weekend. While he is here, I will take the chance to take off to Tampa, Florida from January 16th to 24th. Originally I was planning to join the March for Life January 19th to 23rd in Washington, DC, but my classmate ministering in Tampa will celebrate his 25th Anniversary as a priest and I am honored to preach on his anniversary mass on the 21st. So I decided to go there as it is once in a lifetime celebration, like when I celebrated my 25th anniversary as a priest last year. Let us pray for our teens and volunteers who will be going to March for Life in DC this Thursday and the March for Life itself. Especially let us say a special prayer on January 23rd, which is a day of prayer for the reversal of Roe vs. Wade and for the respect for life especially for all the unborn. Please take note that we have no masses and adoration on the weekdays from January 16 to 20th, and January 23rd and 24th. Dont go anywhere. See all of you when I return. God bless you all! Fr. Roger Free Will Donation Breakfast Make plans to attend, Sunday, February 12th following the 8:00am Mass. Remembering a Man of God This coming Monday, the nation will observe a national holiday to celebrate the birth of a man who devoted, and ultimately gave, his life to help free not only blacks, but whites, from a legacy of racism. That mas was the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister from Alabama and Georgia who took his non-violent campaign to cities across the nation to help end discrimination and racism. He never reached his 40th birthday, having been killed in Memphis in April of 1968. King had been a student and a teacher all of his life. From what he had learned, he helped topple Jim Crow, and changed forever our American culture. For spearheading the civil rights movement, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Many schools have a day off to celebrate King, but it would seem more fitting to hold classes on this day, using the time to educate our young people about this extraordinary man who stood firm by his beliefs to make all Americans less-prejudiced.

Why Be Catholic? John Henry Cardinal Newman once said, To go deep into history Karen Pryer is to cease to be Protestant. Many times, Protestants disagree on Jan Harman what Scripture actually means, but the Catholic Church has its Vicar Joann Black on earth, the Pope, and his bishops who form the Magisterium, or Marcel Normand infallible teaching authority which Jesus gave to His Church on faith Larry Pronier and morals. Sometimes, the Catholic Church teaches principles that Bill Harman the world dislikes. In the 1960s, the womens liberation movement Helen Normand endorsed contraceptives and abortion on a grand scale. In the midst of this, Pope Paul VI declared artificial contraceptives to be wrong! He was met with much disapproval throughout the world. Even his Fred Bogina won Commission urged him to end the ban and join with other Bill Harman, Judy Wingebach, Linda Broyles churches to allow individual choice. But Paul VI remained strong. God wouldnt allow His Church to teach error, and he reiterated that life begins at conception and the pill would prevent that life from happening. The Pope remained steadfast. God protected His Church. Theres only one reason to be Catholic --BECAUSE IT IS TRUE!
