MASS SCHEDULE
GIRARD Sat. 5:30pm Sun. 10:00 am ARMA 4:00pm 8:00 am

Notes From the Pastor: On January 22, 1973, the US Supreme court handed down the decision of what is now famous Roe vs. Wade which as a summary legalize abortion in the country on the ground of protecting the woman's health. Some of you might be more familiar about this case than me , but all I know is the fact that since this decision was handed down, millions of babies have already been aborted. We know and we believe that life begins at conception, therefore abortion is killing of innocent life. As Christians, all we can do are non-violent actions! That's why we have March For Life and more so, the Church have encouraged us to pray more and pray harder. Our bishops have encouraged us to join the whole church in the National Prayer Vigil for Life. In Washington, DC over 20,000 pilgrims from across the nation pray through the night for an end to abortion and a greater respect for all human life. It is held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The National Prayer Vigil for Life is one small part of the Church's "great prayer for life." We may not be there, but wherever we are we can join them in our minds and hearts with our prayers. A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer. - Blessed Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, no. 100 Let us also pray for all who join the March for Life in Washington, DC and in Topeka, and most of all to all our parishioners who join the march. Again, we welcome Fr. Richard Tillman to our parish and may we be able understand fully the mission of the Christian Foundation for Children and the Aging and help them in their cause. May God bless us all. Fr. Roger

Holy Humor There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. Is there anything breakable in here? asked the postal clerk. Only the Ten Commandments. answered the lady.

The Great St. Thomas Aquinas Weve all heard of this extraordinary saint of the Catholic Church and what he has accomplished. Well visit him once again since his feast day is Saturday, the 28th. He lived 48 years, but accomplished more than some who have lived twice as long. Born in 1226, near Naples, Italy, of wealthy parents whose great ambition was to see their son become the Abbot of the large Benedictine Monastery nearby in Monte Casino. His Dad put him with the Benedictines at age 5 on his road to holiness. He learned much from them, but at age 19, he studied at the University of Naples and decided to join the Order of Dominicans, much to his familys disappointment. Theyd plan to stop him, but the Pope talked to them and asked that they not stand in his way of a vocation with the Dominicans. He went to Cologne, Germany, where he studied under the respected teacher, Albert, the Great. Thomas soon became a teacher of theology after he was ordained. His greatest contribution to the Church is his Summa Theologica. Known for his great love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, he wrote Tantum Ergo, Bowing low; and also O, Salutaris, O Saving Victim which are sung at the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. He once said he learned more from gazing at the crucifix than from all the books hed read. He is the Patron of Catholic Schools. He was named a Saint not because of his great intellect, but for his great love for the Eucharist and the Mass! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fr. McElwee once told me, The Catholic Church was the only thing between him and suicide after his conversion. The reason being that the Church gave meaning to his life. Its a place for people to go who know how badly they need God. The Church doesnt make decisions on majority vote such as in the case of married clergy, abortion, etc. There is a reality outside of us and we dont vote on it! You dont go out and set up your own church. This Church has been here 2000 years and its still here. God is a reality, like gravity. He set up the one Church. He wouldnt have established 250 of them! Ted Kennedy and others didnt want to push their morality on us, which is why they voted for abortion. No doubt, not the real reason. Thats like saying the sun is shining, but you dont have to believe it, believe what you want. If the sun in shining, it is reality and you have to believe it! If abortion is killing babies, why wouldnt that reality be real for everyone, regardless of faith? Were lucky to belong to a Church that speaks the truth. Articles written by Marcel Normand
