Practicing our F’s and E’s

Assessment:
• students will be assessed on their handwriting by completing the
designated smart board activity with the instructor as well as receiving
a stamp in their handwriting booklets for completing the page on F’s for
grade three and the page on E’s for grade fours.
• Students will be assessed on their letter by filling out a checklist given
to them with the assignment. They will have to color in the smiley faces
on the checklist once they have completed the task. The teacher will
then look over the letter to see if the student has correctly evaluated
themselves.

ACTIVITIES
Name of Exercise: Expected Length: (in
Practicing handwriting minutes)
15 minutes
Purpose: (why is this exercise included in the lesson)
So the students may work on learning how to handwrite the letters of “F” and
“E”
Detailed instructions: (how will this exercise be explained to the group)
• Instructor will ask the helper to hand out the orange handwriting
booklets
• Grade three will be asked to start on the F page
• Grade four will be asked to start on the E page
• Once they have finished the page, they will go up to the instructor or
substitute for a stamp, indicating that all of the letters have been clearly
written to the best of the students ability
• During this time, there will be a smart board presentation up of a dotted
line with the letters “F” and “E”. The instructor will call students up one
by one to come to the smart board and trace the letter on the board
with the pen. Once the instructor feels that the student understands
how to properly handwrite the letter, they will be sent back to their
desks.

Purpose: (why is this exercise included in the lesson)
So the students may practice their letter writing skills, as well as write a thank
you letter to the recycling depot for touring them around.
Detailed instructions: (how will this exercise be explained to the group)
• Instructor will explain that we are going to write a thank you letter to
the recycling depot for the fantastic tour that they gave us
• Instructor will hand out the Letter writing checklist as well as the letter
writing template
• Instructor will explain that their letter will be marked based on the
checklist provided.
• Instructor will suggest that they can start out their letter with “ Thank
you for….” And add in a sentence that says “I learned that….” And to
end out the letter with “it was nice of you to…..”
