Engineering Drawing Dec2010

Class Test 1
Regular Polygons, Scales, Conic Sections & Special Curves
Answer Any Three Of The Following:

Set No: 1

1. Draw a Vernier scale of RF =1/5 to read decimeters, centimeters and millimeters, and to measure up to 6
decimeters. Show the lengths of 5.73 dm, 2.99 dm and 0.49 dm on it. 2. 3. In a triangle ABC, AB, AC, and BC are 100 mm, 55 mm and 70 mm respectively. Draw an ellipse and that A and B are foci, and C is a point on the curve. Find directrix and eccentricity of ellipse. A stone is thrown from a 7 m high building, and at its highest flight the stone just crosses a 14 m high palm tree. Trace the path of the stone till it touches the ground. The distance between the building and the palm tree is 4 m. Draw a Vernier scale of RF = 1/24 to read yards, feet and inches, and to measure up to 4 yards. Show on it lengths representing (i) 2 yards 2 feet 10 inches (ii) 1 foot 3 inches. Construct a regular pentagon of 25 mm side, by two different methods.

Class Test 1
Regular Polygons, Scales, Conic Sections & Special Curves
Answer Any Three Of The Following:

Set No: 2

1. The actual length of 500 m is represented by a line of 15 cm on a drawing. Construct a vernier scale to
read upto 600 m. Mark on the scale a length of 549m. 2. 3. The distance between the directrix and the focus of a parabola is 50 mm. Draw the curve. Draw a tangent and normal at a point of the curve 100 mm from the directrix. Draw the path traced out by a point on the circumference of a circle but opposite to the contact point. The circle rolls without slipping vertically downwards for the distance equal to its perimeter. The diameter of the circle is 40 mm. Name the curve. Calculate the RF of a scale which measures 2.5 inches to a mile. Draw a comparative scale of kilometers to read up to 10 km. 1 mile=1.61 km. Inscribe a regular Heptagon in a circle of diameter 50mm.

Answer Any Three Of The Following:

Set No: 3

1. 2.

A forward reading vernier scale gives the following details 1 msd = 40 cm. 1 vsd= 25 cm RF = 1 : 100. The scale is to be able to read upto 10 metres. Construct and mark on the scale a distance of 7.85 m and 8.15 m. A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls on a straight line without slipping. In the initial position, the diameter AB of the circle is parallel to the line, on which it rolls. Draw the loci of the points A and B for one revolution of the circle. The asymptotes of a hyperbola are making 70 degrees with each other. A point P on the curve is at a distance of 40 mm from the horizontal asymptote and 50 mm from the inclined asymptote. Plot the curve. Draw a normal and a tangent to the curve at any point. Construct a vernier scale to read distances correct to a decameter on a map in which the actual distances are reduced in the ratio of 1:40000. The scale should be long enough to measure 6 kilometers. Mark on the scale the lengths of 3.34 km and 0.57 km Construct a regular pentagon, Heptagon with Common base of 40 mm side.
