Gone Sledding
Last Sunday I took the kids out sledding on the hill next to Salt River park. That morning we invited Kayla's friends Hannah and Hailey to go sledding with us that afternoon. They were already riding with us to church, and I knew that we would all be getting home after twelve o'clock so I picked up a couple of hot 'n' ready pizzas at Little Ceasers. After our late lunch the kids changed into their snow gear and I drove them to the Salt River park. At that point, it was around three o'clock so they had nearly two hours to sled before I'd have to take the girls back home. All four of them were instantaneously riding down the hills and walking back up, trying different sides of the hill, and racing each other every once in a while. Hannah and Kayla tried going down while holding on to each others' sleds. For a while there, sleds were swapped for other kids' sleds just for a change of pace. Kayla and Hannah did talk me into going down a couple of times, and I'll admit it that it was pretty fun. When I was younger, the hill I rode down on a sled was in a cow field across the road from my house. There was a pretty good sledding hill in the field, but the terrain was very rough. If I wasn't dodging rocks or limbs I was jumping over logs and small mounds in the middle of the field. If my sled went too far, I'd find myself in the middle of an area at the bottom of the hill where you could step through a thin layer of ice into cold mucky water if you weren't careful. The hill next to Salt River Park is a lot nicer because there are fewer obstacles and the ground is pretty even. Towards the end, Hailey and Josh were the first to retreat to our car for shelter from the cold, but Kayla and Hannah stayed out for the longest time. They might still be out there sledding if I hadn't insisted they get into the car. When I wasn't sledding down the hill or checking up on the kids, I was taking pictures of the kids on their sleds.
