Survival, Survivalism, and Preparedness Wilderness survival, and its cousin urban survival are related to survivalism and

the preparedness mindsets that are increasingly popular in these "troubled times". Indeed it is often difficult to draw a line between one category and another as being purely survival, survivalist, or preparedness. I am not sure these particular times are more troubled than they ever have been. We face the same basic threats as always, only the names and circumstances change. It is likely a man surviving 1,000 ago was as familiar with the dangers presented by pestilence, famine, environmental degradation, government interference, large scale war, and social and economic breakdown as we are. So how do we account for the increasing worldwide interest related to survival and Survivalism? What often draws people to our camps, be it survival, survivalist, preparedness or whatever you want to call it is that as confidence in our governments and economic systems erode, people come to the real understanding that they themselves are ultimately responsible for their wellbeing. The increasing interest in subjects related to survival is a direct barometer to the rising tide of vulnerability people now feel in their lives. The social contract broken. We are on our own. The illusion of safety is shattered. The increasing interest in subjects related to survival is a direct barometer to the rising tide of vulnerability people now feel in their lives. The oil spigot may be turned off. The food deliveries stop. Governments corrupt. The hungry displaced hordes invade. Many, the smart ones anyway, take matters into their own hands. The realization we are basically on our own or, worse, that our governments are likely to be a hindrance to our survival come SHTF (thats Shit Hits The Fan to the uninitiated) spurs us to action. This leads to personal research into just what it takes to survive.

Shelter, water, food, clothing, fire, medical, and self defense are the survival basics for everyone. Depending upon which of these survival factors you emphasize and the actions you take you may be labeled somewhere within the various fields of survival, survivalist, and preparedness. But the goal is ultimately the same: Survival. If you want the best survival preparations, come what may, you would do well to sample from the various overlapping survival related of wilderness and urban survival skills, survivalism, and preparedness. Each has its place in support of the others, each has its strengths from which you can increase your ability to survive in these modern troubled times. Wilderness and urban survival, survivalism, and peparedness complement one another and enhance your ability to survive come what may in the world.
