Mthodologie au sujet argumentatif. Are you for or against CCTV in the street?

(a) To finish, I find CCTV cameras too expensive and not efficient enough. Indeed, only one crime out of a thousand can be solved thanks to video surveillance. (b) Last but not least, when a crime is committed, CCTV cameras can be efficient because they permit to identify and arrest the murderer quickly: CCTV operators call the police instantly. (c) CCTV cameras are everywhere nowadays: in the street, in shopping malls, in banks, even in stadiums. They aim at protecting people but also at looking after them, checking if they do something wrong or illegal. However, we may wonder if video cameras are necessary and really efficient. Thats why we will deal with the positive aspects but also the drawbacks of this constant surveillance. (d) Besides, they can also have a dissuading effect on drivers for example. For example, they are less tempted to run fast and to ignore traffic lights. Consequently, pedestrians may feel safer when crossing the street. (e) To conclude, as far as Im concerned, CCTV cameras are necessary to reassure and protect people but they are too numerous and will never replace police agents. (f) Nevertheless, since they know they are filmed, most of them wear hoods or caps for instance, in order not to be recognized. Some of them even destroy those cameras before committing a crime. (g) To begin with, I think video cameras can be useful in public places, such as in narrow streets or in the underground, because they may reassure people if they have to walk alone by night. (h) Moreover, even if I may feel safer when walking in the street, I am also spied on all the time. Do you know that Londoners are filmed 300 times a day? To me, this is too much, I would feel I am constantly observed and I would have no more private life outside home.
