the steam engine, telephone, gramophone, automobile, eiffel tower, Ferris wheel, and television What do they have in common? they introduced new epochs to humankind. they became cultural symbols in different countries while enriching lives of many across the world. And significantly, they all made their debut at World Expositions!
Steam engine
The steam engine was showcased at the Great Exhibition in 1851, recognized as the worlds first international exhibition. The steam engine is considered a ground-breaking invention that revolutionized an economy based on manual labor and triggered the development of transportation.
telePhone
The telephone initiated a communication revolution that swept across the world. It was showcased at an exhibition held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
gramoPhone
Thomas Edison, often dubbed the greatest inventor in history, exhibited the light bulb, which became the center of attention of investors from across the world, and amazed visitors with the gramophone that played the sound of his own voice.
aUtomoBile
The automobile was first revealed to the public at the 1885 exposition held in Antwerp, Belgium. Automobiles for general consumers began to be marketed soon after the Expo.
eiFFel toWer
The Eiffel Tower is a steel lattice tower named after the French architect Gustave Eiffel and measures approximately 320 meters in height. The Eiffel Tower served to symbolize the advent of industrial society often represented by steel.
FerriS Wheel
The Ferris wheel, which slowly turned high the sky for 20 minutes with over 2,000 spectators aboard, instantly became the main attraction of the Expo.
televiSion
Television signaled the start of a new culture brought about by the new media of the 20th century. Surprisingly, the history of television is yet to reach its centennial year.
FroZen mammoth
A frozen mammoth presumed to be 18,000 years old was displayed at the Expo in Aichi to highlight the magnitude of the human impact on the environment, as the excavation of this mammoth itself is the product of global warming.

The Expo is jam-packed with cultural programs, with 40 performances and events taking place every day for the entire period of 93 days, that is, 3,700 in total! It features large-scale events such as the state-of-the-art Night Multi-media Show taking place at the Big-O, world-class performances, and concerts of popular singers from Korea and around the world. More frequent and smaller-scale events such as street performances and audience participation programs will also be offered. The Expo will promote cultural diversity and enable visitors to enjoy themselves to the fullest against the refreshing backdrop of the sea.

A part of the concrete shoreprotection project for the New Port of Yeosu was turned into an eco-friendly park to stay true to the environmentally conscious nature of the Expo. It is a great venue for families, students, and children to learn about the significance of coastal ecosystems while enjoying the pristine beauty of the sea.
At the Energy Park, visitors can get hands-on experience on the latest technologies using renewable energy sources such as wind, tides and tidal currents. This eco-friendly park provides a place to rest while exploring green technologies.

The Sky Tower is a monumental piece of art, recycled and redesigned from a pair of abandoned 55-meter cement silos on the Expo site. The harp-shaped exterior is an embodiment of the giant waves of the coastal waters of Yeosu. Moreover, the tower is a fully-functioning pipe organ that will play the tunes related to the sea for the enjoyment of visitors.

The Aquarium consists of three parts: Coastal Life, Marine Life, and the Eco-Terrarium. Representing life in the five major oceans of the world, the Coastal Life zone allows visitors the opportunity to see rare ocean animals, such as white whales, Baikal Seals, and sea dragons. The Marine Life zone can be viewed in all directions, the first of its kind in Korea. The Eco-Terrarium zone recreates the ecological system of the Amazon and houses such rare South American freshwater fish as the pirarucu and piranha.

The Expo Hall consists of a 1,000-seat theater and a 500-seat conference hall, both fully equipped with advanced facilities and technologies. The Expo Hall will be the main venue for National Day events and a variety of performances and events from conferences to plays and musicals.
