WELCOME SPEECH Distinguish guests, speakers, participants, sponsorships, ladies and gentlemen, Good morning!

Today, we hold the International Conference on Bioscience & Biotechnology: Interfacing Biotechnology, Natural Product Chemistry, and Tropical Biodiversity for Sustainable Development. This is going to be a great and significant event as the experience will be shared and actions will be explored. More than 140 well-known experts, researchers, lecturers, and students have been invited and attend this conference. Here, please allow me to express my sincere welcome on behalf of the Organizing Committee to all the experts and participant that have participated in the conference! Ladies and Gentlemen, A large proportion of the worlds biodiversity is found in tropical countries, with comprises of more than 70% of world biodiversity. Among them, many have been recognized as the important sources for food, medicine, timbers, and as material supporting for everyday life. The chemical and biological diversity have interrelationship and interdependence as a whole system. Each species, each dimension of the planet, makes its unique contribution to the good of the whole. Our survival is intimately connected to the survival of the other species of the planet. I would like to thank Prof Hildebert Wagner (University of Munich) and Prof Geoffrey Cordell (University of Florida) as keynote speakers, and also to these folowing invited speakers, Prof Shukor Md Nor (Universtiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Dr Mahanem Mat Noor (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), and Dr Sharifah (Universtiti Teknologi Mara). I also gratefully thank to the Rector and Vice Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Dean and Vice Dean of Faculty of Science & Technology for giving us opportunity to organize this conference. We also thank to our sponsor and mass media that contribute to this conference. Good Morning, Distinguished Guests, Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen, It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference on Bioscience & Biotechnology: Interfacing Biotechnology, Natural Product Chemistry, and Tropical Biodiversity for Sustainable Development, held in this unique and beautiful town, Yogyakarta - Indonesia. Thank you for coming to Yogyakarta to share your research findings with all of us. This Conference will reveal concerted multidisciplinary approach in natural products isolation, structure elucidation, synthesis, methods development, biological activity studies, ecology, biotechnology, as well as other areas enabled by organic chemistry, biology, ethics and education. The theme of this Conference is in line with the vision of Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Sunan Kalijaga as a center of excellence of scientists who respect our tropical biodiversity.
