Writing Through my Imagination

Imagination. That is where all my ways of writing come from. I write through the eyes of a dreamer. A dreamer of the day and a dreamer of the night. You may believe this to be odd, but with every piece of writing I work on, I use my imagination. By using my imagination, I am able t o create the perfect flow. I can put the information I gathered through my research and my thoug hts together in an imaginative way. The amazing thing about writing is that it can be done in man y ways. Everyone has their own process when it comes to writing, and everyone has their own t echniques and routines. We were all created differently, therefore we all write differently. Growing up as a child, I used my imagination at every moment. I was the type of kid that would have a blast with only a cardboard box for days. In my mind, that box was more than just a piece of recyclable matter. It was a spaceship, a clubhouse, a hiding spot, anything I wanted it to be. I was the little girl knocking on every kids door in my neighborhood asking to play. There was nothing better than getting a group of kids together and going on an adventure. Usually, the adventure was to climb the tallest tree in the neighborhood and risk falling and breaking a bone or two. However, a few times we plucked up enough courage and knocked on the creepy old ma ns house on the corner. As we walked up the squeaky, old stairs, our hearts pounding, one of u s would quickly knock and one by one we would scurry off into the bushes across the street. It s ounds quite cruel now, but in our imagination back then, the old man was an alien ready to ship us off into outer space. You cant blame us for wanting to test our boundaries with him a little bit. Looking back at all of the fun times I had as a child using my imagination, I can better understan d how I use my imagination today. The whole point of using our imagination, is to create anything we want to create. You ar e able to combine every thought you have ever had and make something out of it. For instance, a writer takes a blank page and creates a whole new meaning. Stories, poems, narratives, and many more are formed. Its all in the writers imagination where the beginning, middle, and endin g come from, and by using their creative ideas, writers can set-up every piece of writing they wo rk on and form something amazing. To get in the writing spirit, most writers put themselves in their preferred place of comfor t. One may act as Kent Haruf, reside in their coal room in the basement of their home, and surro und themselves with items that are emotionally attached to them to create the drive to begin writ ing. Haruf states, I dont feel sentimental about these things in any sloppy way, but I do feel a st rong emotion remembering things, remembering people, remembering places and sights (Haru f, 312). Having that feeling of comfort and remembrance, really makes that place sentimental an d secure to work in. Sometimes its the little things that matter, and with having items around yo u that you are familiar with and enjoy remembering, writing can be that much more enjoyable. A lot of writers focus on the emotion behind their surroundings in order to create the writing that th ey are meant to create. As for me, I dont focus much on the items that are surrounding me, but the atmosphere. The place that I write must have that perfect air flow, the not too cold, not too hot temperature, a nd just the overall feeling of comfort. I prefer natural lighting when I write. Such as, sunlight, the l ight streaming down from the moon and stars, and sometimes even light coming from the flashe s of lightning on a stormy night. Where I prefer to write always depends on the mood I am in, the type of writing that I am working on, and which season we are in. My favorite time to write is in t he summer. If I was in a gloomy, depressing mood, I would distance myself from every human b eing I could. You would find me under the Weeping Willow tree in the backyard of my grandpare nts house along the bay of Lake Erie. If I was in a joyful, cheery mood you would find me across the street in front of my grandparents house, swinging on the hammock my grandfather hung be

tween two trees when I was seven years old, right on the sandy beach. The place where you wri te can determine the whole outcome of your piece of writing. To begin the writing process, every writer undergoes a certain routine to get them starte d. One might create an outline of the information they have gathered through research and plan out how to include all of the facts that they need. Some writers will pre-write by starting a first dr aft and by jotting down every thought and piece of information that comes to mind when their pe n hits the paper. Others, like me, will ponder how they want to write their paper mentally. I will wr ite and re-write in my mind and when I come up with a plan, thats when I start my draft. I stick t o one draft and begin writing the paper I came up with in my head. Unfortunately, sometimes the thoughts and ideas for my writing doesnt come out on paper the way I expected it to. When this happens, I use my imagination. I work around my writing and figure out a new way to get my poi nt across. A good thing about using your imagination when writing is that there are so many pos sibilities and so many ways you can put it together. The creative and intelligent ways you come up with in your head define your whole writing style. You may switch one paragraph with anothe r, or switch the endings of two paragraphs, but in the end the goal you wanted to make with your writing is always accomplished. Some people dont realize this, but the after-math of writing is one of the most important parts. A writer must take the time and rejuvenate themselves. Writing can take a lot out of some one, and by relaxing the mind and taking a breather, a writer is that much closer to starting agai n and creating a new writing masterpiece. After I complete a piece of writing, I like to work off so me endorphins by going to the gym and working out. I also like to get with a group of friends and laugh until my face hurts. By doing things like this, I finish my writing process and refresh mind f or something new. If I didnt grow up dreaming as a child and not using my imagination, my writing process and style would be completely different. If I never day-dreamed as a child, I wouldnt have had a s much fun as I did. I wouldnt know how to decipher my dreams today and fuel my imagination with creative ideas like I now can. My writing has and always will come from my dreams. The im agination that has been building up and changing as Ive grown up. This may not make sense to you, but I know that if I didnt have a vivid imagination I would have no idea on how to put any of my writing together. It was used at every moment growing up and it will continue to serve me ev ery time I write. I am a writer defined by my imagination.

I love this paper! I love all the personal connections you make regarding the way you write. I wo uld work on the flow a little bit with the senteces but you did a great job of getting my hooked rig ht away and keeping interested. Keep up the good work and I think your final draft will be outsta nding.
