The EMCO WHEATON Strategic Business Unit (SBU) operates within the Fluid Transfer Division of Gardner Denver Inc., of Quincy Illinois. The organization is divided into two operational segments, namely Fuel Systems and Loading Systems and comprises five manufacturing plants located in Houston Texas, USA; Ontario, Canada; Treboda, Sweden; Kirchhain, Germany and Margate, UK. In addition to this, it has strategically located group sales and distribution facilities in Paris, France; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Manama, Bahrain; Vienna, Austria; Krakow, Poland; Moscow, Russia; Bradford, UK; Louisville, USA and Wales, UK. FUEL SYSTEMS
The Fuel Systems SBU is the foremost supplier of a comprehensive range of road tanker loading/unloading systems, automatic fuelling systems for transit buses, DRY-BREAK couplers and adapters and a variety of aviation and industrial nozzles. In addition to Emco Wheaton, the organization has recently added the TODO product range to its portfolio. BULK UNLOADING
Versatile bulk unloading is made possible by leaving the manifold valves closed and allowing maximum product to flow straight through the manifold valve.
PUMP UNLOADING THROUGH MANIFOLD

Unloading is made possible through either pump system by opening the required manifold valve. This allows product to flow out of the manifold to the pump. Cross contamination is eliminated when using the sequenced air system that ensures only one valve can be opened. When the guard bar assembly is locked and closed this ensures complete security as no product can flow through the API Adaptor.

The Sealed Delivery System API adaptor has been developed to provide an electronic seal with full audit trail for individual tanker compartments and has sensors recording any movement of fuel between loading and discharge. Compartment dipsticks and ullage gauges are no longer required, manhole covers do not need to be opened and vapour emissions can be eliminated.

HOW THE SEALED DELIVERY SYSTEM WORKS The indicator on top of the API valve gives a continuous display of the product status of the compartment, and run off pipes to which the valve is attached. The display LOADING AND UNLOADING GUIDE
1. On arrival at the loading bay, the display must show empty (g 1). 2. Any residue from the previous delivery will run down the API valve and may cause the display to show API wet. 3. Loading can commence with display showing as either empty or empty & API wet (g 2). 4. On commencement of loading, the display will read unsealed (skipping) and API wet (g 3). 5. At completion of loading, when the API valve is closed, the display will show sealed & API wet (g 4). 6. On arrival at the delivery point, the display will show sealed & API wet (g 4).
indicates five states:- SEALED, UNSEALED, EMPTY, BATTERY and API WET. A black rectangle indicates which state, or states, are current. The remainder of the display is blank.
7. Upon opening the emergency valve, and the API valve, to commence delivery, the display will show unsealed (ashing) and API wet (g 5). 8. When the compartment and run-off pipe are empty of product, the API wet indication will be extinguished. With the API adaptor remaining open, close the emergency valve to display a solid unsealed message (g 6). 9. When the emergency valve is closed then re-opened, the display will show empty (g 1). Only when the display shows empty is the product delivery complete.

LOCATION OF ADAPTORS The bottom loading adapter or adaptors must be insatlled on the curb side of the tank vehicle (see figure 3). HORIZONTAL SPACING OF ADAPTORS Where more than one tank vehicle adaptor is provided, the vertical centerlines must be at least 10 inch (254 mm) apart. The face of the adaptor must be in a vertical plane and must be located no more than 6 in. (150 mm) inside the maximum width of the vehicle in the
adaptor area. When mulitple adaptor are installed, adaptors must not be horizontally spaced on more than 6 ft (1.83 m) center (see Figure 3). VERTICAL SPACING OF ADAPTORS The tank vehicle adaptors must be installed on centers that are not more than 5.4 ft (1.37 m) above grade when the vehicle tank is empty and not less than 2 ft (0.61 m) above grade when the tank is full. Experience indicates taht for ease of loading, a height of not more than 3.75 ft (1.14 m) and not less than 2.5 ft (0.84 m) is desirable (see Figure 3).

The Emco Wheaton 671295 Emergency Valve Sumps are designed for easy welding to aluminium tank shells. These sumps ensure maximum drainage of the tank compartment and full flow through the 4 emergency valves. These 671295 sumps can be welded into the tank shell by cutting a hole and welding around the sump.

face downwards to accept the emergency valve and the sumps should be level in all planes.

Seal off device prevents product spillage in tanker rollover accidents. Exceeds the requirement of petroleum spirit conveyance by road regulations. Viton seals are standard for compatibility with high-octane fuels. Flame retardant stainless steel gauze covers the inlet/outlet ports.
The 2 High Flow PV Vent provides pressure venting to atmosphere, for the tanker vapour line when it is not sealed, for vapour transfer. The pneumatic cylinder seals the vent when vapour transfer is required. Aerodynamic porting facilitates extremely high throughput. Pressure: Air flow at 21 kPa = 198200 litres per hour (7000 cubic feet per hour). Mandatory rollover seal off is included. This feature has proven its effectiveness many times in tanker rollover accidents where it has protected lives, prevented dangerous, costly spillages and stopped pollution.

Emergency Venting at a massive 7000m/hr via the pressure actuated fill cap safeguards against tank explosion in the event of a fire.
BLIND BOLT HOLES AND WEBS CAST
All bolt holes are blind i.e. they do not break through to the underside of the manhole cover. This is to ensure that no liquid cargo can leak through. Webs cast on underside of the base plate and fill cap increases the structural integrity.

SPRING EMERGENCY VENTING
Four visible, corrosion proof, plated spring emergency venting. The springs are not shrouded in a rubber sleeve, which was the cause of a major failure on another manufacturers manhole cover due to rainwater ingress that could not dry out and consequently corroded the single spring. The corrosion was not evident, as the spring was not visible. The UK Health & Safety Commission identified this as a cause of failure in an official report.

Recessed centre bolt ensures that emergency venting via the spring loaded fill cap is effective even if the tanker has rolled upside down. Many competitive designs do not include this which means that the tanker could explode if on fire and overturned. Raised seal face prevents water dripping into tank compartment. The fill opening is 10 (254mm) diameter to allow easy insertion of the loading arm drop pipe. The fill cap includes a water drainage lip to prevent either rain or wash water dripping into the compartment and contaminating the product when the lid is opened for loading etc. 2 High Flow Pressure and Vacuum Vent Valve allows for a massive 7000 ft/hr (198 m/hr) of exhaust, and 3500 cubic feet of vacuum, ensuring that the tanker has adequate breathing in extreme climatic conditions. This vent is also designed to seal off to prevent product loss and consequent environmental damage in the event of a tanker overturning. A shield protects the PV vent from damage by loading arm drop pipe.

ORIENTATION OF MANHOLE COVERS All Emco Wheaton manhole covers, except the F0339 oval manhole cover, can be supplied as left-hand or right-hand configuration. This enables ancillary items, such as HLCO, dip tube or mechanical top operator, to be positioned on the tanker centre line.

Lightweight, compact and clearly visible air system Emergency Shut Down (ESD) valves, designed for mounting at any desired position on the tank truck. A remote control device for quickly closing pneumatic valves, road tanker bottom loading and vapour return systems in an emergency situation. These valves offer the operator a rapid means of emergency closure, remote from the main air system control valves. They require no resetting after use. FEATURES AND BENEFITS The OR logic element is sometimes used in the pneumatic circuit when an air signal is required from one source or another without back feed to the other source. An example would be when control of a tankers valve is required from either side of the vehicle but not both at the same time.
When it receives an air signal to one of its feed in ports a signal is allowed to through to its out port. It has 4 mm push-in fittings for the nylon air tube.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS The & logic element may be used in the pneumatic circuit when an air signal is required from two sources before a signal is released to activate a valve. For example, when actuation of a tankers valve is required only when another part of the air circuit has been activated, for safety reasons such as ensuring vent valves are open.
When the & logic receives an air signal to both of its feed in ports, a signal is allowed through its out port. If it receives only one signal it will not be transmitted through. It has 4 mm push-in fittings for the nylon air tube.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS The Visual Indicator is used when a clear indication of a valves status (open or closed) is required.
When it receives an air signal, the indicator will change from red to green. It is designed for panel or faucet plate mounting and has a 4 mm push-in fitting for the nylon air tube located at its rear. The indicator is normally used to signal the emergency valves status, by receiving the air signal from the emergency valves sequenced air cylinder once the valve has opened.

Gunmetal body for high durability and corrosion resistance. 1 BSPTr male threaded connection. Three pressure settings available: 2, 3 and 6 psig. Upset device to prevent liquid loss in rollover situation. Pressure relief at 70 mb (1 psig). Vacuum relief at 3 mb (0.042 psig). Weight: 0.9 kg.
This vent valve is for external mounting on road and rail fuel oil tankers, or static storage tanks. It protects the tank against collapse or rupture by enabling the tank to breathe to atmosphere due to the volume variations caused by temperature change. Under normal conditions the pressure relief will open at 70 mb (1 psig) and the vacuum relief at 3 mb. Additional venting is incorporated for emergency response to higher internal tank pressures, such as may be encountered in the event of a fire. Three opening pressures are available for this condition; 140, 210 or 420 mb (2, 3 or 6 psig). An upset device is also included to prevent excessive liquid loss if the tanker overturns. This feature is overridden, however, should the emergency venting device come into operation.

Designed for use when top loading a vehicle to show visual indication that ullage limit has been reached. The Emco Wheaton F0052 Ullage Gauge is an adjustable level indicator that can be attached to the underside of the manhole cover baseplate or to the fixing collar. Once installed it can be sealed at the correct ullage setting to aid with top loading, acting as a visual guage for the maximum fill level.
