DisplayMaker 72UVR User Manual Addendum

This addendum provides information that was unavailable when the DisplayMaker 72UVR User Manual (part number 0706273) went to press.

Chapter 1: Getting Started

N Nominal operating temperatures the printer is designed to be operated within a

range of temperatures and relative humidity. The newly-received printer, ink, and media should be allowed to stabilize for several hours in its operating environment prior to unpacking, installation, and assembly, especially during seasons of hot or cold weather. Failure to do so could result in printing problems. its fan before reading color patches. If the UV curing lamps have been on for longer than 10 minutes, the photodiode cooling fan runs for 12 minutes before taking readings; otherwise the fan runs for 7.5 minutes. The control panel displays a countdown timer while the photodiode is cooling.

N Photodiode cooling fan for maximum accuracy, the photodiode must be cooled by

Chapter 2: Using the Control Panel

N Use Sleep mode DO NOT POWER DOWN THE PRINTER. The printer requires power

continuously to provide vacuum to the printheads, which prevents ink from leaking out of the inkjets, so power should be cut off only when servicing or relocating the printer. When the printer will not be printing for an extended period (for example, overnight), press the Sleep button on the printers control panel. Sleep mode places the printer in a low-power consumption, idle state while maintaining vacuum to the printheads. When you press the Sleep button, the printer prompts you to open the wiping station cover so that if vacuum to the printheads is lost unexpectedly (for example, during a power failure), the ink will drain into the waste ink reservoir. The printer automatically wakes when it receives a print job or the operator presses a key on the control panel. For further information about Sleep mode, see page 2-7 of the User Manual.

Caution

The printer will enter Sleep mode after a user-defined interval of inactivity. In this case, in the event printhead vacuum is lost, the wiping station cover will still be closed, and there will be nowhere for the ink to drain (except onto the printer and floor). To prevent significant ink leakage during an unexpected power outage, MacDermid ColorSpan strongly recommends using the vacuum/pressure systems 24 volt auxiliary power supply and connecting it to an uninterruptable power supply (UPS). Affordable and reliable UPS units are available with 100240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, minimum of 15 watts. See page 1-21 of the User Manual for details.

Chapter 3: Media and Ink

N Loading rigid media when loading rigid media, align its leading edge along the

front of the platen, where the front platen extension is attached. This is more accurate than aligning the media along the edge of the roller table. Before printing, the printer will automatically locate the right and left sides of the media, regardless of its location on the platen. the User Manual has been replaced with a new version (part number 0506093), shown below. The new version allows installation from the front of the rail, which is necessary due to the additional UV shielding added to the rear of the rail. To install:

N New pinch roller release block the pinch roller release block shown on page 3-26 of

1. Raise the pinch rollers using the release lever. 2. Install the release block from the front of the printer into the desired pinch roller assembly.

One of the blocks two indents should rest on the pivot. Push the block back to the second indent to engage the back of the rail as shown below.

Engaged 3. Lower the rollers to the desired tension.

Disengaged/Stored

4. The block can be stored in the disengaged position by raising the pinch rollers, then pulling the block forward so that its first indent rests in the pivot.

Chapter 5: Maintenance

N New hinged wiping station cover the separate wiping station cover and access door
have been replaced with a combined one-piece hinged cover and access door. While printing, this door must remain closed to block UV light. If the printer detects that the door is open during printing, it displays a message on the control panel, switches off the UV lamps, and printing stops until the door is closed. (Some individual printers have the original separate cover and door, which do not generate a message when open.) The software prompts you to open this cover during a Standard purge.

Open the cover when prompted for a user-initiated Sleep mode (Front Page > Sleep) and Performance purges (Menu > Maintenance > Perform an Air Purge > Performance). Standard purges (Front Page > Purge) occur at the left end of the printer with the parking station removed.

N Do not clean the pinch rollers with fluids cleaning the pinch rollers with fluids such
as isopropyl alcohol or SolaChrome Printhead Flush may result in deposits of these fluids onto the print media and streaks in printed output. When necessary, use a dry lintfree cloth.
