Ladi Balogun Led FCMB Gets Commendation from Edo State Governor Over School Reno vation Governor

of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has commended First City Monumen t Bank (FCMB) Plc under the leadership of Ladi Balogun, for its positive contrib ution towards the development of education in the State. Marina, Lagos, February 09, 2012 -- Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomh ole has commended First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Plc under the leadership of La di Balogun, for its positive contribution towards the development of education i n the State. The Governor made this commendation while speaking at the official commissioning of the renovated two blocks of 18 classrooms at Agbado Primary School, Benin Ci ty, which was undertaken by FCMB as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in Edo State.The governor went on to highlight the many years of neg lect of the public schools in the country saying The public schools have collapse d and many of us prefer to send our children to private schools, thereby buildin g a society where there are separate schools for the children of the rich and po or. Acknowledging that a significant investment had been made by FCMB towards suppor ting the education system in the State and the country at large, the governor al so said the aluminium doors and windows and tiles FCMB used for the building of t his school are what you find in the homes of the rich. He therefore, called on the nations political elite and other corporate entities to emulate FCMB and invest massively in the future of Nigerian youths by creatin g an enabling atmosphere for learning, noting that the genuine development of th e country would be threatened if this was not done. Earlier, the Group Managing Director of FCMB, Mr. Ladi Balogun, who was represen ted by the Executive Director, Transaction Services, Mr. Peter Obaseki, stated t hat the commitment of the bank to the project was driven by its Corporate Social Responsibility philosophy centred around empowering people especially, the vuln erable and the disadvantaged in the acquisition of skills with the view of event ually becoming self reliant and economically independent. According to Ladi Baloguns representative, The benefit of todays commissioning exer cise transcends the mere need for education and draws attention to the need for qualitative education in a conducive and enabling environment so that our youngs ters can escape the prevalent poverty cycle in which about 70 percent of Nigeria ns are trapped, with grave implications for civil society and social order. He expressed optimism that the newly rehabilitated Agbado Primary School will se rve as the perfect platform for the education of children and acquisition of ski lls.
