[Introduction]Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the main department in Politeknik Melaka. The Programme offer are Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DKM) and Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (SKM). Starting by July 2010 session this department only offer Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DKM). This Programme aims to prepare students with knowledge, skills and abilities necessary in the mechanical engineering industries.Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DKM) is developed to give balanced emphasis on theoretical and practical aspects.The programme will take six semesters to complete, relatively three academic semesters at their respective polytechnics and one semester of industrial training at relevant industries during the fourth semester. Students are required to return to their respective institutions for the complection of the programme in the fifth and sixth semester.

[Synopsis]Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnic’s Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia is designed to cover the current wide discipline of mechanical engineering with added specialization subjects in the field of mechanical engineering. Core courses offered include Engineering Mechanics, Electrical Technology, Engineering Drawing, Mechanical Workshop Practice, Workshop Technology, computer Aided Design, Thermodynamics, engineering Laboratory, Fluid Mechanics, Strength Of material, Pneumatic & Hydraulic, Project, Maintenance Management, Material Technology, Mechanics Of Machines, Engineering Design and Mechanical Components and Maintenance. The elective courses are Industrial Automation, CADCAM, Quality Control, Industrial Management, Instrumentation & Control. Common courses are included in the programme are Engineering Mathematics, Computer Application, Engineering Science, Occupational Health and Safety and Entrepreneurship. Compulsory courses offered include English For Professional Communication, Islamic Or Moral Studies (TITAS), Co-Curriculum and Soft Skill would equip students with interpersonal ability, attitude and professionalism towards their career.
