1 NEW DESIGN AND DIFFERENT FUNCTIONALITY

o Each task can be sorted by two different parameters: priority and
due date. This replaces the Active, Long Term, and Recurring
organization.

A o The number of tasks of each type isn’t shown.

Create & Edit Task NEW DESIGN AND DIFFERENT FUNCTIONALITY

o
The Create & Edit Task function occupies two separate screens.
All tasks are created on the same two screens.
o New functionality: the user can specify a priority. This is similar to

New functionality: the user can specify a time.

In the Edit case, this field and all the others (except

Create & Edit Task 1 I don’t know if you can make input text a particular

yellow indicator. But the idea is that the text itself
indicates how close the task is to its due date.

Last Updated: 11/10/2008

Page Notes:

Tasks
1 I changed “Active” to “Short Term” to make it
parallel with “Long Term”. I think you were right

Short Term [3]

from the start.
1
However, there is not much functional difference
between a short term and long term task. Although

Long Term [1]

the path to the Create Task screen differs, once
2 you get there the fields are exactly the same. So I
think we should make sure we really need these
two different task types.

Recurring [6] 2
I made the indicators smaller because I think the
text is more important. Yellow and red are easily
seen.

Deleted [3]5

3
I deleted the arrow in front and added more space
between “Create Task” and the other lines
because I wanted it to stand out. I really like the
angle brackets at the end.

I don’t know if you can make this text a smaller font

Create Task >>

than the others. Would be nice because these are
3 lesser-used keys. The color separates them from
4
the other commands, so I changed them to cap
and small. Cap and small is easier to read than
ALL CAPS. I also made “Time Zone” two words

4
Exit Time Zone It’s not clear if this number is the total number of
tasks of that type, or the number in the red state. I
5 can think of designs that would resolve the
ambiguity, but they are more complex – maybe too
complex for a cell phone to-do list.

Page Notes:

Active 1
Possible to have a “Create New >>” command at
this level? It would create a new Short Term task.

Apply to GW
I don’t know if people will understand that this
2 allows you to mark a task as done or not done. I
also think they might be a little confused about
what happens when they do use the functionality:
o If I mark a task that is past its deadline as

Buy Health Ins

“Not Done”, I see a red alert indicator next to
it – the same indicator I see if I didn’t mark
the task.
o If I mark a task that is not yet overdue as “Not

Res for FL
Done” the indicator also doesn’t change.
3
However, some people might really like it, because
you can see all that you have accomplished during
a week.

One possibility is to add the marking functionality

to the Edit screen. If you did this, you could
substitute the word “Edit” for the stacked lines at
the bottom of the screen. This would make the Edit
functionality more evident. You could still bring up
the Edit screen if the task is selected and clicked,
as you do now.

I added a comment to this task but didn’t see

3 anything at this level to indicate that there was a
1 1
2 comment. Possible indicators:
o A series of three dots (. . .)
o The text ”More”

Create Short Term Task 1

The heading should match the command name on
the earlier screen.

I have made the field labels a smaller font than the

2 Description 2 fill in text. I don’t know if you can do this. If you

can’t do this, is there other text styling (such as
3 bold) that would make the field input more evident?

Res for FL I’ve also made the background white so the

3 selected field (which is a light blue here) is more
evident. When I used the prototype, I had trouble
discerning which field was selected.
4 Target Date
I’ve made field labels that are two words initial cap
4 (“Target Date” not “Target date”). This is very
...Date... minor, but I thought it looked a little nicer.

I don’t know if you can include the yellow indicator

5
in either the label or input field, but if you could,
5 Warning Date that would go a long way to conveying what
“Warning Date” and “Red Alert Date” mean.

...Date... We’ve talked about alternative labels: “Heads Up

Date”, “Orange Alert Date” “Past Due Date” and so
on. These labels are all a poor substitute for a tiny
graphic!

Page Notes:

1
1 I think it’s OK to have this screen a child screen of
the Create Task screen. Maybe the Warning Date
child screen should obscure a little more of the
background so it’s completely clear where the
Target
2 Date input is.

Warning Date. Usually a day or two before the Target Date. 2

I eliminated the calendar icon because I thought
people wouuld try to click on it. I used the real
