Ziarat Ashura
(lesser known ziarat)



The ziyarat of Ashura which is less known enjoys the same rewards as that of the well
known ziyarat, which is widely recited; it excludes the hardship of reciting the curses
and salutations each one hundred times. It is considered as a great achievement for
those who have urgent tasks.

* * *In order to perform ziyarat for the Imam (asws) from far cities or near, ritual
bathing (ghusl) should be performed first. Then one should go to desert, or go up his
house roof, and should say two rak`ats of prayer in which the surah of al-Tawhid
(Ikhlaas) is recited. Having got through with the prayer, he should point to the Imam
(asws), bid salutation to him, should turn and face the direction of the shrine of Imam
(asws); that is, the holy city of Karbala; then he should say the following humbly and
modestly:
