Students in the Senior Capstone Experience pilot program at Saline High School are finding their stride, after a fast-paced start to the school year and the opportunity to show their progress to community leaders at the programs halfway point. District readies for all-day kindergarten


School board OKs changes to meet goals

Incoming kindergarteners at Saline Area Schools will have experiences others before them never had.

Registration for the class of 2026 begins March 1 and, with it, the intensive investment of resources on the young students will commence. First, kindergarten will be an all-day adventure after the Board of Education recently approved the switch from a half-day program late last year. The move helps the district accomplish an

action step of its Strategic Framework goals and keeps its per pupil foundation grant intact. Secondly, incoming students will be screened to determine their reading and comprehension level. This will help the district better ascertain the literacy needs and allocate resources accordingly. The Strategic Framework is an attempt

by the school district to set forth goals it wants to accomplish to better serve the educational needs of its students. Its not a mission statement, but it displays the heart of the teachers and administrators. It really captures what we want as a district, Assistant Superintendent Steve Laatsch said. The framework is just a shell. Within each of the four

goals are action steps. These are jumping off spots that need to be carried out for the next two or three years. The action steps help the district determine what resources are needed and where they should be used. Its a rough shell of what we are striving for, Laatsch said. Celtic Festival will bring renowned band to perform
