Tech Knowledge Computer Basics

Activities:
Teacher Preparation: Make sure you have usernames and passwords for your students before you take them into the lab. Introduce student logins to Tech Knowledge (SRA) and opening a lesson. You will model the following for your students using the projector in the lab. You can use the extra student login you have been given. Username _________________ Password ___________________ 1. 2. 3. 4. Open up Clicks!, Click on SRATechKnowledge (Red shape in upper right corner) Type in username and password and click login, and then at the next page click go. Click on the red monitor on the left side of the screen. Click on the camera to show your students an introduction movie to the lesson. (2-3 minutes). Show students how they will click a green number to open a lesson. Tell the students that they need to listen carefully to the directions and follow along with the program. If they dont do exactly what the computer asks they will not be able to move on. Near the end of each lesson, there will be a Bonus Time. The teacher can decide if they think Bonus Time is appropriate for their students. If they dont want them to participate in this activity, just click the map in the bottom right hand corner to go on to the next lesson. In Bonus Time, students observe applications for the skills they just learned and decide what subject they would most likely do this task in.

After 3 questions in Bonus Time, there is an Extra Credit . Students earn points for completing tasks related to the skills they just learned.

When they finish a lesson, it will take them back to the map. Click the next number to go on to the next lesson. For this unit, students should not skip around, they should go in order. 8. Dismiss the students to sit at their computer, but before you allow them to enter Tech Knowledge go over proper positioning for keyboarding. Sit back in your chair with your back straight. Place your feet on the floor if you can. Pull the keyboard to the edge of the table. 7. Allow the students to open Clicks!, SRATechKnowledge, and log in. 8. Monitor the students as they work. Other Notes: The unit project refers to activities that are in the SRA Tech Knowledge text book. For more information, see your technologist.
