ANOINTING Introduction Anything done without the power of the holy spirit will not bring eternal fruit.

What is the anointing? Oil being applied on a person (1) An appointment for a task to be fulfilled - Jesus was anointed In the O.T Prophets - spokesmen for God Priests - representing God for man and man for God Kings - reign `we reign in life' Rom 5:17 because of the anointing

DEFINING THE ANOINTING

Pouring of Oil on to somebody something Setting the person apart to do His task The impartation of Gods ability into our lives to do His work God calling and anointing people to do His work.

Examples 1. Aaron and his sons were anointed to the priesthood (Ex. 30:30; Lev. 8: 12). 2. Moses had an anointing of Gods Spirit upon him (Num. 11: 17). 3. Joshua had the anointing imparted upon him through the laying on of hands (Deut. 34:9). 4. Saul was anointed to be king (1 Sam. 10: 1). 5. David was anointed to be king (1 Sam. 16: 13). 6. Jesus was anointed to manifest His Messiahship (Acts 10: 38) Isa. 61:1The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4: 17-19.

1. The anointing is an impartation. Something is transacted. 2. You must be able to show the source who gave 3. Something has been given in the supernatural and spiritual realm. 4. It is the supernatural ability to do Gods task The anointing is not cheap or automatic 1. The person must be available 2. Gods test on their lives will prove whether they deserve the anointing Eg. Jesus - tested in the wilderness He was full of the spirit and came out with the power of the spirit Aaron was asked not to leave the tab for 7 days or he will die Lev 8:33 35 Lev 10:6-7 6 Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, "Do not let your hair become unkempt, and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the LORD will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the house of Israel, may mourn for those the LORD has destroyed by fire. 7 Do not leave the entrance to the Tent of Meeting or you will die, because the LORD's anointing oil is on you." So they did as Moses said.

3 Categories of anointed men SAMUEL - anointed by God. a. Came as a result of a mothers prayer b. Slept next to the ark of the covenant c. Eli and Children were bad examples but that didnt affect him d. Appointed two kings e. He had the priestly anointing and the kingly anointing upon Him

SAUL 1. The power of God was upon him but now his anointing has been lifted. His appointment of kingship is removed. 2. He became jealous of the anointing of David 3. Was tormented by an evil spirit. 4. He had the position without an anointing

5. People were looking to him but God's spirit was not upon him. A LIFE SET APART FOR HIM AND CONSTANTLY DEDICATING IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KEEP THE ANOINTING FRESH ON US THE 7 SONS OF JESSE Appointing of King David 1 Sam 16:1-14 Keep moving with those who are already anointed. It is the anointing of God that brings the K.G. 1. Human choice can be wrong even men like Samuel 2. He does not anoint according to a person's ability or personality 3. He does not choose according to family pedigree 4. He will not choose according to the one who is next in command SOMETIMES GOD IS WILLING TO WAIT UNTIL A MAN AFTER HIS OWN HEART APPEARS IN THE SCENE AND NOT JUST A POSITION OR A TITLE. 5. Others recognize when the anointing is on somebody When the anointing is upon a person others will be able to recognize. Human personality, intellect, wisdom will cause people to draw closer to themselves and not to God.

6. Even an unborn child will recognize the anointed ( John the Baptist in Elisabeths womb) DAVID 1. Only a few knew that he was anointed 2. It took a long time to be fulfilled You don't try to run around to prove your anointing he knows the right time. If you do so you can get into unnecessary trouble - Eg. Joseph 4. His appearing before Goliath was a proof that he was anointed. 5. His concern the glory of God 6. Because of the anointing the enemy could not do any harm 7. Power was present when he played the harp and fought the enemy 8. The power of God was upon David when he played the harp and fought with the enemy. Anointing with power Power is a person There is a power within and a power without There has to be power which is to make us more like Jesus.

POWER WITHIN Learn to be straightened in the inner man. Learn to receive. It will happen in the heart. Learn to drink from within. Eph 3:14-21 14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! POWER FOR REVELATION Eph 1:18 Power within us to give us faith Eph 1:20 POWER WITHOUT 1 Power to witness a. You will be my witness when the power of the holy spirit is comes upon us b. None of the projects or plans that is going to help us but the new anointing of the Holy Spirit c. When the power flows in there will be a power flowing out d. Evangelism is a part of life and not just planning anything POWER TO MOVE IN THE SIGNS AND WONDERS Acts 4:29-33 Heb 2:4 2 Cor 12:11,12
