Envirotemp 200 fluid was developed specifically for applications requiring high performance under extreme temperature conditions. It is a biodegradable, polyol esterbased low viscosity fluid with excellent dielectric, thermal and physical properties. These properties make it appropriate for forced liquid cooling applications. Its unique formulation provides freezing and melting points well below -50C. The high fire point and heat transfer characteristics of Envirotemp 200 fluid make it highly ignition resistant. Its fire point is greater than 300C (572F). Envirotemp 200 fluid has excellent environmental acceptability due to its non-toxic and biodegradable properties.

APPLICATlONS
Envirotemp 200 fluid is used wherever there is concern that electrical failures will generate dielectric fluid fires. Since the temperature necessary to maintain a fire is significantly higher than with traditional transformer mineral oils, Envirotemp 200 fluid is extremely unlikely to sustain a fire after an electrical failure. The end result is that fire risks are minimal when Envirotemp 200 fluid is used. Its fire safety record is flawless. It has proven to be an excellent retrofill fluid for both new equipment and transformers originally containing askarel (PCBs).

Forced Cooled Transformers

In forced cooled transformers, the pumps which circulate the dielectric coolant through the transformers heat exchanger must be capable of functioning at cold start temperatures. Envirotemp 200 fluid offers an excellent combination of low pour

(See Table 1, Typical Properties). Additional proven applications include sectionalizing switches, modulators and electrorheological

The performance of forced cooled transformers and other equipment requiring Envirotemp 200 fluid is further enhanced by the fluids other important properties: excellent thermal properties high dielectric strength oxidation stability clear bright appearance

PROPERTIES Physical
The low viscosity of Envirotemp 200 fluid compares favorably with ordinary transformer oils. Its low pour point of 50C and excellent lubricity make it an ideal fluid for transformers with forced circulated coolant pumps.

Tests have further shown that the fluids biodegradability is superior even to that of mineral oil. Envirotemp 200 is not listed as a hazardous material or waste.

Handling
No unusual handling precautions need be observed when working with Envirotemp 200 fluid, and no odor or vapor problems are encountered under normal conditions. Refer to the Envirotemp 200 Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for details.

Thermal
Favorable specific heat, thermal conductivity and coefficient of expansion values also contribute to its performance.

Chemical
Envirotemp 200 has stable chemical properties which help to extend equipment use. The oxidation stability properties limit the aging process of the fluid. See Table 1 of Typical Properties for specific criterion and values.

GENERAL SPECIFICATlON GUIDELINE

Fire-resistant dielectric fluid shall be biodegradable, less-flammable, polyol ester-based fluid; Envirotemp 200 fluid or equivalent.

Flammability
The high fire point of over 300C and excellent heat transfer property make Envirotemp 200 fluid an inherently ignition-resistant material. Federal Railway Administration testing has further concluded that this class of fluid is satisfactory from the standpoint of flammability and fire extinguishment capability. Field history supports the safety qualities of Envirotemp 200. To date, there has never been a fire reported involving the fluid.

Environmental and Health

Two sets of universally accepted tests have been run to assess the environmental acceptability of similar ester fluids. In the LD50 oral Toxicity test, no signs of toxicity were observed in any of the test animals. In the AMES test, which has been validated extensively through the testing of known carcinogens and non-carcinogens, similar ester fluids have been determined to be nonmutagenic.
