ENGINEERING PROJECT COMPETITION

This competition is open only to Pakistani participants.

REGISTRATION:
3. The complete registration requires the following documents to be submitted before the deadline. i. ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM ii. STUDENT CERTIFICATION FORM iii. REGISTRATION FEE 4. The registration form is available on the SOFTEC w e b s i t e (http://www.softecnu.org), at the registration link of the Engineering Project Competition. The form must be filled and submitted online.

Submission deadline of Online Registration Form, Student Certification Form & Registration Fee: February 20nd, 2012.
5(a). All participants must submit the Student Certification Form (http://softecnu.org/downloads/Student_Certification_Form.pdf) signed by the academic officer of their institute to identify them as currently enrolled undergraduate students of the institute. An option would be given to download this Student Certification Form right after the online registration form is submitted. Student Certification Form can be submitted by hand, post or fax. 5(b). Graduate students are required to submit their transcripts at the time of registration.

6. Registration fee for the Engineering Project Competition is PKR 2000/- and is nonrefundable. Payment Method: Payment can be submitted in any of the following two forms: Bank Draft: Registration fee may be in the form of a bank draft (excluding bank charges) in favor of BCCI-FAST, which should be payable in any Lahore-based bank. (This Bank Draft can be submitted either by post or by hand.) Cash: Payment can be done in cash by hand in the SOFTEC Office at FAST-NU Lahore.

PRELIMINARY EVALUATION:
7. All the projects will first be evaluated in the Preliminary Evaluation Round, after which, the selected projects will be allowed to participate in the Engineering Project Competition. This evaluation will be done by a team of qualified professionals on the basis of the description provided in the registration form. Therefore, the team leaders are requested to kindly provide maximum details to the Preliminary Evaluation Committee at the time of registration. 8. IN ORDER TO ENTER INTO THE PRELIMINARY EVALUATION ROUND YOU MUST CARRY OUT THE WHOLE REGISTRATION PROCESS BY THE MENTIONED DEADLINE AS DESCRIBED IN THE PREVIOUS SECTION. 9. The participants, whose projects will be accepted, will be informed by February 24, 2012, v i a e mail. 10. Accepted applicants must t confirms their participation in the competition b y emailing their team name and RRN b y February 25, 2012via e-mail at epc@softecnu.org

HARDWARE ISSUES:
11. Only basic h a r d w a r e support will be provided (i.e. system, keyboard etc.). Participants will need to bring any specific software they are using for their project. 12. The projects must involve 50 - 60% hardware (developed by the participants). 13. Only programs written for I B M PC or compatible computers would be considered participation. The E n g i n e e r i n g Project Competition T e a m will provide o n l y IBM compatible machines. Local participants are encouraged to bring their own hardware. for PC and mouse

14. Any requirements, such as hardware, network, space, etc. must be stipulated during registration. Requests for additional materials at the time of the competition may or may not be entertained. 15. For computer interfacing projects, the only transferable medium allowed for software is USB device. Hard Disks are strictly prohibited.

TRANSPORT AND ACCOMMODATION:


16. Accommodation arrangements for the outstation participants would be made by the

SOFTEC Society for 500 per Participant.

17. SOFTEC Society will not bear any traveling expenses of the participants.

COMPETITION:
18. This competition is meant to accommodate only following groups of disciplines: Electrical Engineering Electronics Engineering Computer Engineering Mechatronics Engineering Computer Software Engineering (only if the project involves reasonable hardware)

19. The project should involve two phases. Analysis Design 20. Sub fields of the respective department are required to be clearly mentioned. For Ex ample: Electrical Engineering Digital Signal Processing Digital Signal Processing Image Processing Image Processing Object Recognition So in the above case, Object Recognition becomes your field of interest. 21. You are allowed to bring any relevant material along with your project in the competition. 22. For presentations, bring your own USB or Laptop. The presentation should be in MS power point

COMPETITION SPECIFICS:
All entries must be on display for the full two days of the event. On the day of the competition all selected participants are required to bring with them some proof of their identity e.g. National I.D. Card, Driving License, Passport, or College I.D. Card. Failing to do so will result in disqualification. The projects would be on display for general public and at least one member of a team is required to be there at ALL TIMES during exhibition to explain their project to the public. A panel of judges will evaluate each project during the two-day period of the competition. Complete documentation of every project, including the user manual, should be available at the time of evaluation during the event. No project will be evaluated without its documentation. The decision of the judges will be final. Participants are required to be there at the time of evaluation. Failure in appearing before the judge at the time of evaluation will automatically disqualify the project from the competition. No team can leave the competition before the SOFTEC closing ceremony even if that team fails to qualify for the second round.

IMPORTANT:
If a project is found to be a copy or replica of any other project, the act will be considered

cheating and the project will be disqualified. In all matters concerning the competition, the decision of the SOFTEC Society will be final and binding on all concerned. The SOFTEC Society reserves the right to disqualify any participant who fails to adhere to the above-mentioned rules. The SOFTEC Society reserves the right to modify the rules without prior notice.
