PLACES TO GO 1. NIGHT SAFARI Take cab there and back .Estimated cost 40 SGD return. Absolute Must. Can be completed in 2 hours. Go in about 6:30 and come off at 8:30pm. The giraffes are a real beauty! There is a monorail that travels in a figure of eight. I suggest you do part a by foot and part b by monorail. that way you can complete in 2 hours and not be too tired! There is a creatures of the night show too that is pretty cool WHATEVER YOU DO, dont sit on boxes because there is an albino python hidden in there for showmanship! Trust me, I learnt the hard way - http://www.nightsafari.com.sg/ JURONG BIRD PARK Lovely aviary all kinds of birds plus a whole flock of pink flamingos in the lake. Again take cab there and back (Estimated cost 40 SGD return) http://www.birdpark.com.sg/ SINGAPORE ZOO one of the best in the world apparently, its a lovely visit time and time again. There are buses that ply the route or take a cab. CABS ARE relatively cheap in Singapore. I used them to go EVERYWHERE; they are big, clean and comfortable. http://www.zoo.com.sg/ SENTOSA ISLAND Take MRT to Harbourfront. Connect with cable car to Sentosa Island. There is an aquarium there (cant beat Sydneys) and there are the pink dolphins too. There are lots of buses that go round the island so you should be fine to get around. Lovely hotel called the BEAUFORT there, go and see it and perhaps have lunch/tea there! Wont regret it. Sentosa also has peacocks roaming freely. (MRT HARBOURFRONT) http://www.sentosa.com.sg/ CHINATOWN pretty much like any other Chinatown but whats good to try here is the Glutton Street which is a mile long of hawkers al fresco hawking local food so pretty nice to try. Glutton Street is on SMITH STREET. (MRT CHINATOWN) http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/about_singapore/fun_stuff/webcams/Chin atown.html LITTLE INDIA same goes for Chinatown though I must say if your wife is into sarees, to buy from Singapore because sometimes the best of the best from India land here. Go for a Banana Leaf meal its yummy. I recommend MUTHU CURRY HOUSE on Race Course Road. (MRT LITTLE INDIA) http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/what_to_see/ethnic_quarters/little_india.h tml BOAT QUAY/CLARKE QUAY/ESPLANADE quays by the river with loads and loads of restaurants, bars and caf. Pretty much a tourist spot but sit and have a drink by the river just to take in the sights and sounds its lovely at night. (MRT RAFFLES PLACE) http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/what_to_see/singapore_river/boat_quay.h tml CHIJMES (North Bridge Road opposite Raffles City) this is an old convent converted into an array of shops, restaurants and bars, lovely courtyards, still has a chapel though no mass/service conducted anymore just the space rented out for weddings , dinners make sure you visit this place its beautiful! http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/where_to_eat/dining_precincts/chijmes.ht ml

PLACES TO SHOP 9. ORCHARD ROAD Pretty much the main shopping boulevard, the entire length, has flagship stores plus all the malls. Good mall to visit is TAKASHIMAYA has about 5 floors of everything right from designer labels to the normal stuff. Singaporeans are big on brands you will notice. Has a lovely great big bookshop called KINOKUNIYA housed within it. (MRT ORCHARD)

10. RAFFLES CITY/ CITILINK This is in North Bridge Road, another mall but whats interesting about this mall is that it has a subterranean shopping mall that connects Raffles City to Suntec City vertically, like an underground walkway. Lots of shops to see as well and gets you from one point to another in air condition!!! You probably know this but Accenture is in Raffles Tower where Raffles City is the anchor tenant. (MRT CITY HALL)

11. SUNTEC CITY if there is one thing Singapore has in abundance, its malls, malls and more malls, so since you already walk the subterranean link you might as well enjoy Suntec City as well. (MRT CITY HALL, walk through CITILINK to Suntec) 12. FUNAN IT DIGITAL MALL This is where you go for your gadgets and gizmos. There is a more popular option i.e. SIM LIM SQUARE but I prefer FUNAN because its less dodgy. Gadgets and gizmos come with International Warranty so safe to buy and enjoy at home. (MRT - CHINATOWN)

PLACES TO EAT Banana Leaf (A South Indian cuisine consisting of rice, meat, two to three vegetables, pappadam) Muthu Curry House, Race Course Road (Little India - Serangoon) Anjappars (Race Course Road (Little India Serangoon) Great hit with the south Indians from India so it must be as authentic as it can be. Things to try here are the dosas and the sura puttu (shark flakes sauted in onions, dried chillies, mustard seeds, tumeric and curry leaves) Seafood (Black Pepper Crabs/Chilli Crabs are famous dishes in Singapore so make sure you try) Ah Hois Kitchen (Inside Traders Hotel) lovely poolside Chinese restaurant that dishes up a mean black pepper crab. Sri Lankan crabs are served here so between you and Marlene, just order one. JUMBO Restaurant (One in Clarke Quay and the other in East Coast) Another one that has reasonably well black pepper crabs I prefer the one in East Coast only because it is by the sea and the ambience is nice. Please book in advance. They are very very full.

NO SIGNBOARD (Esplanade) if you had to choose, I would recommend NO SIGNBOARD they serve white pepper crabs which is a real delight and a nice refreshing change from black pepper. ALSO make sure to order CEREAL crayfish thats to die for. Chinese Food (Char Kuey Teow, Chicken Rice etc) Chicken Rice Boon Tong Kee ( its a franchise of shops around Singapore go to the one in River Valley Road) Char Kuey Teow Glutton St Singaporean char kuey teow is not the same as Malaysian char kuey teow in a sense they use a sweetened dark soy sauce but try it all the same, you might like it. The one on Glutton Street is cool. Poppiah Glutton St Springrolls Chinese style but fresh ones the skin is different from the Vietnamese one, and in it is stir fried turnip slices, fishcakes, crisy fried onions and egg slices. Again can be found on Glutton Street.

Barbecued Chicken Wings Glutton St lovely one with a nice chilli dip. Should be able to eat at Glutton Street Grilled Stingray Glutton St my personal favourite!!!! Glutton Street has it!

Shanghainese Dumplings - Paragon located at the bottom of Paragon Shopping Mall across the road from Takashimaya called DIN TAI FUNG its a nice experience Malay/Indian Muslim Food Satay Lau Pa Sat this are skewered lean meat on sticks with a spicy peanut dip. Go to LAU PA SAT there is this whole row of Satay Sellers. Also must try barbecued prawns on a stick! LOVELY!!! Lau Pa Sat also has a fair share of all the different Singaporean local delights in one sitting. So go for it!

Roti Prata North Bridge Rd ok this one you have to find though I do know that the KOPITIAM restaurant (not food court) housed within the Swisottel Stamford/Raffles Plaza serves this and it is quite yummy. The authentic ones are in the local joints one of which is across the road from PARCO BUGIS mall or Intercontinental in a corner its an Indian Muslim shop so you see indian men with the white skull caps and in sarongs. I personally prefer the ones in Malaysia!

Other Favourite Restaurants I Fraternise Out of a Pan Raffles City Crepes both savoury and sweet that I love Basement of Raffles City around the Fountain Seah St Deli Raffles Hotel American deli that serves really good burgers and salads Raffles Hotel

Crystal Jade Palace - Takashimaya chain of upmarket Chinese/Hong Kong cuisine restaurants eat here frequently because I so love Chinese food ! (Favourite restaurant is Crystal Jade Palace, 5th Floor Takashimaya) Marche Heeren Shops or Suntec City delightful swiss marketplace type caf which is food cooked on the spot for you as you shop for your ingredients good for lunch should go there and try the rosti which is potato pancakes with sour cream, mustard and sausage. They also have salads, grills, asian food, deep fried soft shell crab, should go actually basement of HEEREN shops in Orchard Road or there is one in SUNTEC City Olive Tree - Intercontinental Intercontinental at Bugis, lovely restaurant lunch buffet is superb always do working lunches here when I was based in Singapore.

Mezza9 - Grand Hyatt Singapore excellent open kitchen concept offering nine different open kitchens representing different cuisine great food and ambience a personal favourite! Straits Kitchen Grand Hyatt Singapore - If you had to pick one lunch buffet to sample all the Malaysian/Singaporean delights, pick this one! Make reservations!!!! They have ROTI, they have POPPIAH, they have peranakan food, they have just about every imaginable dish and it is all yum. BEST Poppiah tasted ever in Singapore is here.

Lei Garden CHIJMES Only if you like true blue Cantonese food. Otherwise I think you can do a yum cha! Sketches Roberston Quay nice cosy place that allows you to create your own pasta and pizza by responding to a multiple choice fact sheet.

Da Paolo Holland Village This is in surburbia but a delightful Italian restaurant rather trendy but casual trendy. Original Sin Holland Village - Vegetarian but western vegetarian! Indochine Boat Quay Definitely must try I love this place it is by the asian civilisation museum and has a nice terrace by the river specialising in southeast asian cuisine more vietnamese, cambodian, etc
