The main character, Dexter, is introduced to his American Dream, Judy. Judy, in the story, trails Dexter through a love life filled with betrayal, hurt, and cheat that in the end will finally be Dexters breaking point. Fitzgerald introduces to his audience the mood of emptiness after Dexters love life with his American Dream. Dexters dream was supposed to end with richness, but instead left him with agony.
