Bio and Photo

As an education consultant, Lucy works with a variety of institutions on 21st century learning initiatives, including directing the Consortium for School Networkings Leadership for Mobile Learning initiative. Previously, she served in various capacities related to educational technology at the University of Chicago's Laboratory Schools, Urban Education Institute and Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education. In 2007, Lucy founded the Global Education Collaborative, a network for educators interested in project-based learning which has been expanded into the Global Education Conference. Audience: Elementary, Middle, and High School Teachers; Community College Faculty; K12 and Community College Administrators; Professional Developers One hour breakout session Participants will be able to: explore the conference archives as new professional development resource consider how this event could be used in their local schools as a professional development event learn how a virtual conference is developed expand their knowledge of global education resources Using an assortment of free and low cost web-based tools, education consultants Steve Hargadon and Lucy Gray planned and executed a large scale online global professional development event over the course of approximately six months. In this session, Lucy will tell the story of how the Global Education Conference, highlighting a few archived webinars from the 400+ conference sessions. Additionally, we will dig into content available on iTunes and iTunes U. YouTube is the worlds second largest search engine, yet many educators discount this video repository as a source of useful educational content. iTunes also contains educational content and iTunes U has a plethora of free resources for educators. Finally, we will touch upon the new iTunes U app and iBooks Author. Come find out how to curate, create and publish multimedia content!

The State of Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century

What do all these buzzwords mean and what are the implications for how we teach and students learn? How can teachers make practical changes in their classrooms while still addressing state and national standards? Mastery of reading, writing and arithmetic are not the only skills our students will need to be successful in today's world; they will need to develop a more sophisticated set of abilities than the rote memorization skills required of today's standardized tests. In her presentation, technology consultant Lucy Gray will share information on the 21st century skills movement and will inspire us to think of new ways to engage our students in the classroom.
