CYBORGS 5 Seminar Report 2010 INTRODUCTION Cybernetics is the interdisciplinary study of the structure of the regulatory system. Cybernetics is closely related to control theory and system theory. Contemporary cybernetics began as aninterdisciplinary study connecting the fields of control systems,electrical network theory, mechanical en gineering, logic model, evolutionary biology, neuroscience etc.C y b o r g s a r e o r i g i n a t e d f r o m t h e c o n c e p t o f c y b e r n e t i c s , w h i c h i s r e f e r r e d a s a m i x t u r e o f b o t h organism and the techno logy. When an organism is h alf human and half machine then we call them C Y B O R G . T h e whole process of becoming a Cyborg is known as CyborgationA m o n g t h e C y b o r g s l i v i n g t o d a y D r . K e v i n W a r w i c k heads the Cybernetics Department at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom and has taken the first steps on this path, usinghimself as a guinea pig test subject receiving, by surgical operation,technological implants connected to his central nervous system.T h e w o r l d ' s f i r s t c y b o r g w a s a w h i t

e lab rat, part of an experimental program at New York's Rockland State Hospital in the late 1950s. The rat had implanted in its body at i n y o s m o t i c p u m p t h a t i n j e c t e d p r e c i s e l y c o n t r o l l e d d o s e s o f chemicals, altering several of it s physiological parameters.
