September29thmarkedanotherdayoffunattheSeacoastSquadronas members,familyandfriendscametogetherforadayoffoodandfunat asquadronpicnicheldatDoverPointPark. Thedaywasactionpackedandcreatedanatmosphereoutsidethenor malroutineforeveryonetogettoknoweachotherbetter.Beingpart ofateamandunderstandingyourteammatesiscrucialtothesuccessof ourmissions,onemembersaid. Memberswereencouragedtobringtheirfamiliesandfriendsandmost did.CaptJasonSmithnoted,Itwasreallynicebeingabletomeeteve ryonesfamilies,everyoneissowarmandfriendly.Somanytimesyou hearourmemberstalkabouttheirfamiliesbutdontgetanopportunity tomeetthem,itwaswonderful. Therewerevariousactivitiesthroughoutthedayincludingawater balloontoss,tugowar,andateamworkactivitygraciouslyplannedby thePiazzafamily.Thosethatattendedalsoplayedwhiffleballand touchfootball. Thefoodthatwasbroughtwasworldclass.Therewassomethingfor everyonefromsaladstochickentoburgersaswellasanentiretableof deserts.Withsuchavariety,mostmembershadahardtimedeciding whattoeach...sotheyjustgrabbedabitofeverything! CessnaDelivers100thSkylaneToYinglingAviationForCAPDuty AircraftToBeEquippedWithAdvancedSARGear

CessnaannouncedThursdayatAOPAExpo2007theplanemaker'sInde pendence,KSfacilityrecentlydeliveredthe100thC182SkylanetoWich itabasedYinglingAviationformodificationfordutywiththeCivilAir Patrol.

ThefirstreportedbirdstrikewasbyOrville Wrightin1905,andaccordingtotheirdiaries, Orvilleflew4,751metersin4minutes45 seconds,fourcompletecircles.Twicepassed overfenceintoBeard'scornfield.Chasedflock ofbirdsfortworoundsandkilledonewhich fellontopoftheuppersurfaceandaftera timefelloffwhenswingingasharpcurve. Birdstrikesbecomemorefrequentduring migratoryseasons(fallandspring).Didyou knowthatmostbirdstrikeshappencloseto theground?Thatmeansthattakeoffand landingyourplaneisgoingtobethemost likelytimeyouhitabird.

YinglingwilloutfittheG1000equippedSkylanewithspecialavionics equipmentforCAPduty.TheindependentCessnaauthorizedservice stationholdstheSTCforCAPspecificmodifications.

TheaircraftwasdeliveredattheendofSeptember.Yinglingwillcom pletethemodificationsthatprovidesearchandrescueequipmentand dualaudiopanelswiththeabilitytohavemultiple,simultaneouscom municationsbetweenthepilot,missionspecialist,observerandagencies ontheground.ThesemodificationsallowCAPtotakeanincreasedrole insupportofnationalsecurityanddisasterreliefoperations. TheSkylaneisscheduledfordeliverytoCAPinNovember,accordingto Cessna.

Becauseoftheincreasedlikelihoodofabird strikeduringthenextfewmonths,asbirds begintoflysouth,wewishtocautionyou.

OperatingasanauxiliaryoftheUSAirForce,CAPisalowcostairborne assetthatlocal,stateandfederalagenciescandeployquicklyandeffec tivelyintimesofemergency.CAPoperatesover500Cessnaaircraft qualifyingthemasthelargestCessnafleetoperatorintheworld. YinglingdesignedandreceivedtheSTCfromtheFAAin2003forthe specialmissionequipmentpackage.WithassistancefromCessnaand Garmin,YinglingupdatedtheSTCin2004toworkwiththeGarmin G1000avionicssuite. Thepurposeoftheeventwastohelpbuildawarenessof CivilAirPatrolandthemissionsthatweperform.

Peakingtheinterestof5,000BoyScoutsisadifficulttask, butonethatourexperienced,dedicated,memberswere abletoperformwithexpertise.

OnOctober6th,2007,8cadetsand1seniormemberwereabletoex perienceflightinaglider,formostitwastheirfirsttimethankstothe effortsofafewseniors.

ColDaleHardy,LtColDavidCarlson,MajTomMatthewsand2dLtDick Ruelgavetheirtimeandenergytoflyourmembersastheysooftendo tomakethegliderprogramasuccess.

Withthedaystartingwithadensefog,therewasworryabouthavingto canceltheday.However,inafewhoursthefogburnedoffandtheday becameperfectforsoaring.

Thecadetsparticipatingjumpedinandgottheirhandsdirtypreparing thegliderforflightbymovingittotheproperposition,attachingthe towropes,adjustingnoseweightandactingaswingrunners.

Thehardworkwasdefinitelyworthit,thisisthecoolestthingIveever done!saidC/ABRachelHockhousenwhenaskedifsheenjoyedthe day.

Thecadetsstartedoffslowly,withaturnaroundtimeforsetup,inthe beginning,ofapproximately25minutesbetweenflights.Bytheendof theday,theirteamworkreducedthattimetoapproximately7minutes.

Tomakethetimebetweenflightsgobyfaster,thecadetsandseniors playedflagfootballandsoccer.

BothcadetsandseniorscametogetheronOctober12,2007 toconducttrainingaboutthebasicsofCAP.Althoughthe lessonsweredivided,muchofthesubjectmatterwastaught tobothtypesofstudents. Subjectmatterincludedcoursesinuniformwear,customs andcourtesies,howtoprogressinCAPanddrillandceremo nies. Inall25membersattendedandwereexcitedtolearn.For many,thiswastheirfirstactivityoutsidethenormalweekly meeting.

Duringthetraining,cadetmemberslearnedabouthowto shineshoes,preparetheiruniform,customsandcourtesies, anddrillmovements.Theyalsolearnedaboutallthecadet achievementsandhowtoearnthem. TheOfficersalsolearnedcustomsandcourtesiesanduni formwearaswellasabouttheCAPspecialtytracksandCAP Officerprogression. Laterintheday,4CAPofficerstookdrivingevaluationstoget theirCAPdriverslicense. ThistrainingisthefoundationtoagreatstartintheCAP program.ItwasprofessionalandImgladIattended.SM RobertGodin.
