CHAPTER III METHODOLOGY

Research Design This study employs the experimental method of research. Experimental research is a method used to determine the relationship of the variables.

Sampling Procedure The study intends to make an Isopropyl Alcohol using Ipil-Ipil extracts. The investigators will gather the following materials needed for the study, namely, Ipil-Ipil plant which can be found on stores or households that will be used as a main ingredient of the Isopropyl Alcohol which will be extracted for the experiment with a total of 50cm3, and estimation of 90-120mL faucet waters that can be found on households or inside the science laboratory, an estimation of 50 100mL of sulphuric acids which can be borrowed on the science laboratory.

Instrumentation After identifying the variables of the research, the investigators will gather the erials needed to make the research. The investigators will use the following apparatus: Beaker, to measure a specific volume or liter; and a Reaction Chamber, to distill and to produce the product which will be borrowed on the Science Laboratory or in other schools.

Materials for testing: Triple-beam balance to measure the products mass, Graduated Cylinder, to maeasure the products volume; Water, to see if the product is soluble with it; Salf Solution; to see if the product is soluble with it; Alcohol lamp, to heat the liquid of the product to measure its boiling point.

Research Procedure The investigators will follow the following procedure; First, the investigators will make a sample extracts for the production of a rubbing alcohol be using distillation. After the preparation of extracts, the investigators will start by using sulphuric acid to make Isopropyl Alcohol through indirect hydration. Its primary advantage is the use of the Ipil-Ipil extracts. React the Ipil-Ipil extracts with a solution of 88 to 93 percent pure sulfuric acid in a reaction chamber. The chamber provides the specific conditions of time, pressure and heat which it yields a mixture of Isopropyl sulphate and disorpyopyl sulphate. Examine the reaction given. This is a general reaction to show the reagents and products. The specific mixture of isopropyl sulphate and disopropyl sulphate obtained depends on a variety of factors, including the exact proportions of the extract and sulphuric acid and the conditions in the reactor. Add water to the mixture of isopropyl sulphate and disopropyl sulphate to yield isopropyl alcohol and sulphuric acid. Purify the alcohol obtained in mixture of Isopropyl sulphate and disopropyl sulphate. Distill the alcohol to separate it from the water and sulphuric acid. This process also must remove the by-products of disopropyl ether and isopropyl oils to produce an Isopropyl Alcohol.

(Questions from Chapter III):

How will you do distillation (Research Procedure) How will you determine if you have actually produced an isopropyl alcohol (Research Procedure)

How will you conduct it? (Research Procedure) Where will the bests conducted? (Research Procecure)
