Objectives To know the role of human resource management on how training programs could give competitive advantage to Wegmans Food Markets success

Areas of Consideration/Analysis Wegmans Food Markets training programs explain that their approach to on-the-job learning has been the biggest reason for the companys success. The company believes that placing its values on superior customer service will improve their sales and profit growth. Wegmans uses classroom lectures as one of their training techniques, which has its own advantages like being inexpensive, less time consuming and effective for large groups of trainees. Employees need to feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves. But at the same time you also dont want these strategic plans to come off as to-do-lists to the employees. Employees at Wegmans are well versed with the international foods available at their store and assist their customers on food preparation.

Alternative Courses of Action 1. Excellent and strategic in-house training programs for employees Human resource treats its employees as strategic assets. This strategic plan can be a focus point to make its employees feel valued which boosts their engagement with the customers and employer brand recognition. This helps the organization move towards its mission goals and can provide to be an attractive recruitment process. With an award winning training program, the manager can develop strategies for recruiting the best talent available. Moreover, training employees for excellence such as having classroom sessions teaching product knowledge, food safety, and the ways to cook and bake has numerous benefits to the employees, the company and its customers. However, aside from the usual companys practices, effective evaluation of the impact of the training on both employees and the organization should be done regularly because this is equally important to both stakeholders.

2. HR Department providing an e-learning to employees Many organizations and institutions provide different forms of training and instruction to their employees or learners. Typically they provide needed training by sending people to school, holding in-house training classes, or providing manuals and self-study guides. In some situations it is advantageous for them to use e-learning or other forms of e-learning instead of the traditional training. Other times it is disadvantageous.

Advantages of e-Learning

Class work can be scheduled around personal and professional work Reduces travel cost and time to and from school Learners may have the option to select learning materials that meets their level of knowledge and interest

Learners can study wherever they have access to a computer and Internet Self-paced learning modules allow learners to work at their own pace Different learning styles are addressed and facilitation of learning occurs through varied activities

Development of computer and Internet skills that are transferable to other facets of learner's lives

Successfully completing online or computer-based courses builds selfknowledge and self-confidence and encourages students to take responsibility for their learning

Disadvantages of e-Learning

Unmotivated learners or those with poor study habits may fall behind Lack of familiar structure and routine may take getting used to Students may feel isolated or miss social interaction Instructor may not always be available on demand Slow or unreliable Internet connections can be frustrating Managing learning software can involve a learning curve Some courses such as traditional hands-on courses can be difficult to simulate

Recommendation Among the alternatives provided, the first choice is recommended. An excellent and strategic training programs force the employees to think creatively and outside the box. This can help them to generate new ideas, visualize innovative possibilities and implement those ideas to be successful for increased job satisfaction. Strategic training of employees increases their motivation, skill level and product knowledge that results in higher sales and profit growth.

Conclusion/Detailed Action or Implementation Plan The HR department needs to create a specific framework for the plan they want to implement because without it the execution of the plan would be unsuccessful. Other stakeholders that should not be overlooked would be the customers, the companys competitors and future employees. A companies success depends on its excellent training techniques, particularly if the employees learn skills that are valuable, difficult to imitate and rare. This can help the company to have a sustained competitive advantage. Having this competitive advantage gives a higher rate of employee retention and is an attractive package for future employees. In conclusion, training employees for excellence such as having classroom sessions teaching product knowledge, food safety, and the ways to cook and bake has numerous benefits to the employees, the company and its customers.
