Community

Definition A social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government and often have a common cultural and historical heritage Type of community 1. Geographic communities Range from the local neighbourhood, suburb, village, town or city, region, nation or even the planet as whole 2. Communities of culture Range from the local clique, sub culture, ethnic group, religious, multicultural or pluralistic civilization or the global community cultures of today 3. Community organizations Range from informal family or kinship network to more formal incorporated associations or professional association at a small, national or international scale

Family
Definitions The collective body of persons, who live in one house and under one head including parents, children and servants Specific function of family Control and regulation of sexual behavior To provide for the economic and emotional maintenance of individuals To provide for new members of a society (children) To provide for primary socialization of children

Types of family 1. Nuclear family It is the basic unit of social organization ( parents and their biological or adoptive children)

2. Extended family or joint family This family usually consists of grandparents, parents and children

3. Reconstituted family The family which one acquires when a parent enters a new marriage

4. The single parent family Most parents in this family are women who are unmarried, separated, divorced or widowed.
