Why are there so many different kinds of animals?

Intended Learning Outcomes


1. Name, define and classify the main phyla of animals using diagnostic characteristics, phylogenetic criteria and taxonomic keys

2. Define and explain the adaptive nature of the evolution of animals by natural selection 3. Identify and compare the morphology and function of the primary organ systems across the main animal phyla
4. Define and explain key concepts in animal behaviour

5. Apply the scientific method to biological questions
through practical investigations and written reports

6. Develop the practical laboratory skills of microscopy,


dissection and drawing

Classes
Lectures 3 lectures per week in two venues:
Agora Lecture theatre ELT 3 (video conference)

Laboratory classes 1 x 3 hour laboratory class per week

Which aspects of this subject have contributed most to your learning?


Coming to lectures! I find the passion and motivation of lecturers is passed through their teaching which gets students involved & motivated to learn Video clips relevant to material being learned Comparison tables Lectopia is good as I can go over lectures on the topics I found difficult

Laboratory classes
Four sessions: Thursday 10am -1pm Thursday 2pm -5pm Friday 10am -1pm Friday 2pm -5pm

To be able to look at real specimens in the prac have also improved my learning and understanding of animal diversity
