ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I express my sincere thanks to Dr. Syed Abdul Sattar Dean of Academics and also Head of the ECE Department, for giving me an opportunity to undertake the project WI-FI Data Link Layer Protocol Based on SOC Architecture and for enlightening me on various aspects of my project work and assistance in the evaluation of material and facts. He not only encouraged me to take up this topic but also given their valuable guidance in assessing facts and arriving at conclusions. I am thankful to my guide Prof. Khaja Mujeebuddin Quadry, Prof & HOD EIE Department, for his valuable guidance for successful completion of this project. I am most obliged and grateful to our Principal Prof. Aziz Mohd Khan for giving me guidance in completing this project successfully. I am also thankful to Dr. Syed Abdul Sattar, HOD OF ECE Department, and the entire faculty of Electronics and communication Engineering Department for their encouragement. I would also like to thank Prof. Khaja Mujeebuddin Quadry who have extended his cooperation during my project work.

ABSTRACT
The Objectives of the Project are Understanding of the Wi-Fi MAC Layer Specifications, Architectural Design from specifications, Behavioral /RTL modeling of Design blocks, Design of stimulus modules to test the functionality of Design Blocks, Synthesize design to extract Gate level net list.

The IEEE 802.16 standard for broadband wireless access was recently approved. It defines a physical layer for systems operating at frequency bands between 10 and 66 GHz, a medium access control (MAC) Protocol and the convergence layers for carrying protocols such as IP, ATM and Ethernet. An IEEE 802.16 system consists of a base station and one more or more subscriber stations. The depleting scheme is either TDD or FDD. In the FDD case there is seamless support of half-duplex subscriber stations. The transmissions in the downlink direction are done in a TDM fashion. The protocol defines a physical layer, Medium Access Control (MAC) layer and service specific convergence sub layers for transport of IP, Ethernet and ATM. Its primary responsibility is to provide a reliable mechanism for exchanging transaction packets (Data, Control and Management) on the communication channel through Physical layer (RF Layer).

The Transmit functions carried out at MAC Layer are Generation of various MAC Frames (Data, Control and Management), Generation of 16-bit HEC for Header and 32-bit CRC for payload data, CRC and HEC generation for Payload and Header respectively, FIFO buffer interface for Transmitter, Serializing the data using byte to bit converter, MAC transmitter Controller State Machine implementation.
