Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes. d. 2. Design and Develop Digital Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS-S.

Understandings
Audience will understand that: The audience will understand that using Web 2.0 tools in classroom instruction can aid in student responses in subject areas. The audience will understand the benefits of using these tools and how they are free and easy to use. Related Misconceptions: Some misconceptions that people often have with Web 2.0 tools: They are expensive. Time consuming to make.

Overarching Questions: What are Web 2.0 tools? How do Web 2.0 tools help with instruction? Topical Questions: What benefits will I see in my students after using Web 2.0 tools? How can I use Web 2.0 tools cross-curricular?

Audience will be able to: Create a free account with a Web 2.0 tool.

UbD Staff Development Lesson Plan Web 2.0 tools can be used cross-curricular. These tools are often free to use. Creating these tools are quick and simple. They are saved and can be used again. Using a Web 2.0 tool, create a piece that can be used as an Activator or a Summarizer of a Learning Focused lesson plan. Share the tool used and how it can be used in classroom instruction.

Stage 2 - Evidence

Be sure to indicate: Goal: The goal of this staff development is for teachers to become knowledgeable of and understand the benefits of Web 2.0 tools in the classroom. Through this understanding, teachers will be confident in creating their own piece using a Web 2.0 tool. Role: My role is that of the Instructor of this staff development where I will be a technology leader that is confident of the material and to share the information in an interesting way that will encourage teachers to use Web 2.0 tools in their classroom instruction. Audience: The audience is 1st Grade teachers of C.B. Greer Elementary School in Brunswick, GA. Situation: Teachers will be presented with two Web 2.0 tools, VoiceThread and Xtranormal. They will see how to create and view projects made in both programs. It will also be discussed how these tools can be beneficial to their students and quick to use both tools where teachers will not feel overwhelmed with using these tools. Product Performance and Purpose: Teachers will have the opportunity to create their own project using one of the two Web 2.0 tools presented. The teachers of Glynn County Schools use a lesson plan template with the Learning Focused model. Teachers will be asked to create an Activator or a Summarizer that would correspond with a standard from their grade level.

Audience will have an opportunity to create their own project using a Web 2.0 tool. They will share their projects among their peers and discuss how they will use it in instruction. Observations will be made to see how well the audience has grasped the concepts and skills. The instructor will also use a rubric to assess their knowledge and use of the tools.

Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences Day 1


Introduction of the instructor to the teachers of C.B. Greer Elementary. Pass out to the teachers the Pre-Evaluation. This evaluation will assess the teachers prior knowledge of Web 2.0 tools and the implementation of these tools in classroom instruction. Introduce the Essential Questions of the days Staff Development. Instructor will share a list of Web 2.0 tools that are useful in the classroom. It will be asked if any of the teachers have used or are

UbD Staff Development Lesson Plan familiar of any of the tools on the list. The instructor will then explain that in todays staff development we will explore two of the Web 2.0 tools on the list. The instructor will give an introduction to VoiceThread. It will also be shown how to register and to navigate throughout the site. The instructor will then demonstrate how to create and save a project on VoiceThread. The group will view the created project and another example created by the instructor. The group will also have the opportunity to share strategies that this tool can be used in classroom instruction. The instructor will give time for teachers to ask questions before moving on to the next tool. Next, the instructor will give an introduction to Xtranormal. It will also be shown hot to register and to navigate throughout the site. The instructor will then demonstrate how to create and save a project on Xtranormal. The group will view the created project and another example created by the instructor. The group will also have the opportunity to share strategies where this tool can be used in classroom instruction. The instructor will give time for teachers to ask questions before moving on. The teachers will now have an opportunity to choose one of the two Web 2.0 tools that was demonstrated. They will use the computer lab to create a project using VoiceThread or Xtranormal. The teachers will email links to their projects to the instructor. When the teachers are finished, they will share their projects. The instructor will evaluate their projects as the projects are presented. As presentations are going on, the teachers will share ways they plan to use these tools in their classroom. If there are any questions, they will be answered at this time. At the conclusion of the meeting, teachers will be given a chance to selfevaluate themselves about their confidence and knowledge after the chance to explore and create their own projects. The teachers will also be given an evaluation giving feedback about the Staff Development meeting. The instructor will thank the teachers for their time and hope they will see benefits of using Web 2.0 tools in their classrooms.
