American History - Cold War Homework Assignments Political Cartoon Analysis Due 2/24/12

Description: Find a political cartoon that involves nations or people involved during an event in the Cold War. Make sure you can identify all of the following in a descriptive paragraph: Current Event Who is involved What nations are identified or personified The underlying message being conveyed by the illustrator Description of the illustration in at least one paragraph Due: 2/27/12

Description: Find an article that has occurred in the past 30 days that deals with a topic involved with the Cold War. The article should not be on an anniversary of an event that has previously existed but of one that is currently occurring in 2012. Your analysis should consist of the following: Description/summary of the events Analysis of what you think about the article/event/people involved. Reference paragraph to the Cold War and a detailed description of how if relates to the unit.

The assignment is due Monday 2/27/12, and should be at least one page in length with the article attached. You may type the assignment in Times New Roman font, 12 pt, and double spaced with normal 1-inch margins. (Friendly reminder: Do not plagiarize!) Using the resources you have available to you: Internet, textbooks, multimedia, notes, previous knowledge, etc; write a two page biography on an influential person who is not readily identified as a hero or influential person during the Cold War Era and not someone who has been discussed in class. MacArthur, Alger Hiss, Martin Luther King Jr., etc) In your biography, provide a description of the person you are writing about, how they are involved in the United States during the Cold War Era. Make sure to identify why you have selected this person as well as major accomplishments that they have achieved. Before you write your paper, you should have your selection authorized by the teacher to ensure that your choice is applicable, academic and a reasonable selection. Song Analysis Worksheet

Choose a song from the 1960s (think Woodstock) that reflects the time period. Make sure that your choice has many examples of historical references, imagery, and personification. After watching the segments on the Tet Offensive and Khe Sanh in Letters from Vietnam, write a letter to your family and friends back home describing what you have gone through. Make sure to identify important groups and events (ie: ARVN, NVA, Tet offensive, etc.) The letter should be hand written and at least one page long. Format the page as if it were a real letter; address, name, signature, etc.
