"True advanced amateurs" want to see continuous improvement in image quality, therefore no effort was spared in development of EOS 5D Mark III.
The first camera in the 5D Series targeted True advanced amateurs who wanted a full-frame camera at a reasonable price. EOS 5D Mark III goes beyond this. Offering the advantages of a full-frame sensor in addition to superb optical performance, this new EOS satisfies the creative needs (and budgets) of True advanced amateurs while also serving as an excellent second camera for professionals. To achieve these goals, a new CMOS sensor was developed and coupled with a fast image processor. Sensor specifications were decided based on the concept of comprehensive image quality. Also, development of the image processor occurred concurrent with that of the processor in EOS-1Dx. Both these advancements realize superlative images in a full-frame format in addition to outstanding high-sensitivity performance, making this new EOS ideal for capturing outdoor night scenes and portraits along with dynamic indoor action. Canon poured it on when developing EOS 5D Mark III so photographers across a wide spectrum could benefit from its leading-edge features. In essence, EOS 5D Mark III raises the bar and sets a new standard in its class. 7
Imaging System
High quality still photos and movies that go beyond mere pixel count.
Evolution
EOS 5D Mark III achieves a balance between resolution and low noise. Although pixel count was increased to approx.22.3 megapixels, overall image quality in the standard sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 25600 has actually improved.
Considering the required resolution for producing high quality still photos and the excellent image quality of full HD movies movies, the optimum pixel count was determined to be approx.22.3 megapixels.
Pixel count alone does not determine image quality, hence that EOS 5D Mark III's sensor has more pixels is not the sole reason for the improved image quality. We aimed to achieve at ISO 25600 the same noise level as that of 5D Mark II at ISO 6400. Of course, along with a drastic decrease in noise levels across the normal ISO range, noise reduction performance beyond ISO 25600 was also improved.

Noise reduction/high sensitivity support
Better image quality
An advanced algorithm has been developed that more effectively removes noise, improving results when shooting at high ISO settings. -> Combined with the new CMOS sensor, standard sensitivity has been increased two stops.
Now, shooting movies does not fully utilize processor resources. An electronic audio recording level can be displayed when shooting video video.
The high-performance video engine and fast 8-channel reading capability of the sensor combine to increase power consumption and heat compared to 5D Mark II. However, a large-capacity battery (like that found in 1 Series) was not an option due to size limitations. Therefore, saving energy was an imperative from the outset, with measures implemented throughout the entire camera including the CMOS sensor to reduce power requirements Since Canon develops all camera, sensor, requirements. major camera components this energy-saving initiative was easy to implement, resulting in improved performance while not unnecessarily increasing size. Hence, the number of pictures that can be taken and continuous movie recording time are maintained.

Limits the highest ISO setting when using ISO Auto. Ideal for restricting ISO to a specified range due to concerns about image quality, etc.
EOS First
Improved ISO controls Along with higher ISO sensitivity, new controls for adjusting ISO are available that enhance ease of use.
1) ISO sensitivity, 2) Manual range (sets ISO range, including ISO extension), 3) ISO Auto range, 4) ISO Auto slowest shutter speed (in P/Av modes) range These pictures do not show the final image
With EOS, Auto ISO in P/Av modes generally results in shutter speeds that are unlikely to be affected by camera shake , g y p y y which, as a general rule, is determined by the focal length of the lens. However, when shooting a moving subject with a 28 mm lens at 1/30s, blur caused by subject motion can occur. This blur can be avoided if the slowest shutter speed is restricted to 1/250s or similar. This functionality is quite elaborate due to the many factors involved.

AE lock hold
Now AE lock can be used in M mode. Since exposure can be fixed while Auto ISO is enabled (ISO is automatically controlled in M mode unless AE i l k d ) th i t d d exposure can b is locked.), the intended be attained with spot metering or partial metering.
When using spot metering/partial metering in M mode, the exposure value can be determined by changing the shutter speed or aperture based on the metered value while AE is locked on the desired exposure.
Notes: When shooting through the viewfinder, adjusting the shutter speed and aperture were only possible when the metering area overlapped the targeted p pp g position. It was difficult to adjust the shutter j speed and aperture while keeping the scene properly composed, especially when using a telephoto lens.
Similar to using the normal timer method, pressing the AEL button holds the metered value. Pressing the button again releases the lock.
This avoids unintentional releasing of the AE lock. In addition, it is useful for quickly enabling or disabling AE lock depending on the scene.
Notes: Since the metered value is updated each time the AE lock button is pressed with the normal timer method, this feature is effective when determining exposure while checking exposure difference when shooting through the viewfinder viewfinder.
!
Now the exposure difference can be checked in the viewfinder since both the locked metered value and the value of the area currently being metered are displayed. Based on this information, exposure can be determined by comparing on-screen brightness of the two values.
* The AE lock button/M Fn button/M-Fn button/Depth-of-field preview button/focus button/lens button can be assigned a different function.
If the shutter speed or aperture are p p adjusted when AE lock is enabled, the display changes to reflect the adjustments. AE lock in M mode retains the metered value.
Imaging System
Adjusting ISO while viewing metered value When setting ISO via the SET button, aperture, shutter speed and ISO can be adjusted without releasing the AE lock.
Safety shift by changing ISO sensitivity If the proper exposure cannot be achieved by adjusting shutter speed/aperture, ISO can be adjusted (within the normal ISO and Auto ISO ranges) to obtain the proper exposure.
In previous models, if ISO was changed, the metered value was reset. It was then necessary to meter again based on the new ISO setting. This new function allows g ISO to be changed while watching the aperture/shutter speed/ISO values change, and is performed by pressing and holding SET while turning the Main Dial.
Selecting ISO sensitivity adjusts ISO to obtain the proper exposure without changing creative intent (e.g. stopping motion at 1/500s, blurring backgrounds at f/2.8, etc.). , g g , )
Notes: Previously, if "Tv value/Av value" was selected, the aperture was adjusted to obtain proper exposure when ISO was fixed and the shutter speed reached its limit. Hence, the final image may not have been shot as desired.

The size of the AF sensor, which is the same as that of EOS-1Dx, is xx times larger than conventional AF sensors (approx. 2.5x). Through trial and error, Canon developers managed to install this AF sensor in a 5D-class body. Autofocus firmware was developed using data from interviews with pros and extensive field testing, which resulted in dramatically improved performance when jumping from subject to subject and overall agility.
Note: Interaction between AF and AE (employed in EOS-1Dx) is not supported in EOS 5D Mark III.

Although early Canon D-SLRs did not have in-camera picture processing, picture effects were eventually developed to respond to the creative desires of true advanced amateurs. When developing the HDR function for EOS, popular European HDR images were collected, analyzed and categorized. Through trial and error, we adjusted settings to collected categorized error simulate these HDR images, finally settling on four types that leverage our knowledge picture effects and the power of the new image processor. In the end, we were able to create HDR images in-camera that are on par with those created by dedicated HDR applications.

24 blocks In addition to facilitating composing i thi d it i i in thirds, is now easier to compose using the concept of the Golden Mean.
Generally, positioning the main subject where vertical/horizontal and diagonal lines intersect stabilizes compositions with a 3:2 aspect ratio. We designed it so that grid lines would not meet where intersecting so subjects would remain clearly visible. Therefore, grid lines do not overlay the entire image. Because GUI design takes into account image distortion and other factors, it is difficult to insert multiple grid lines without some kind of distortion. We overcame this challenge by refining This picture does not show the final image the drawing and image synthesizing processes, etc.

D-SLR cameras tend to heat up when shooting movies due to the large image sensor and extremely powerful image processor. To control heat, EOS 5D Mark III developers relied on computer-aided simulations in order to optimize the circuit layout and increase processing efficiency while employing highly thermolytic materials in the camera's camera s construction. As a result, EOS 5D Mark III achieves continuous movie shooting times that are virtually identical to that of 5D Mark II.
